What Really is Success?

Obviously, I am pretty new here. Punching out this blog, I look down at the bottom, and it says "Go ahead and add some tags." I really have just a vague understanding of what that really even means. I will tag it, but I am not even sure I will do this in a way where this post will even be read.

I just wanted to take a quick moment to give you an idea of where I come from. I have been a salesman of some sort for about fifteen years, now. I started fresh out of college as a financial services representative for some pretty big name companies. That was a mistake. I discovered school sales after about six years, and I really have enjoyed some success.

It seems like $100,000 is kind of the magic number. It is what I always put up there as a goal. If I could just hit that I knew I would have arrived. I mean that is the money that would get me what I wanted out of life. I finally did hit that goal last year. In fact, I blew through it. I mean I had gotten close a couple of times, but last year, I hit the big time. I made it on stage at the Nation Sales Meeting. I was Rookie of the Year with the new company.

You know what? As I walked off, I was no happier than before the check was handed to me. It was at that moment I realized that I had been wrong about what success was all along. I had the money. I work from a home office. I see my family more than some. I travel and have a huge territory, but it is all set by me when and where. So, what gives?

Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that I realized I didn't want someone else handing me that big check. I certainly didn't want someone else signing that big check. I realized that as long as I am tied to some company that I will not truly be happy.

It's funny. I have a brother that spends seven days a week in front of his computer writing articles. He loves it. He loves setting his schedule. He loves getting up and "going" to work. Some days, it's at a coffee shop. Some days, it is at an office. Some days, it is in his living room. He loves it. He didn't make what I made last year, but he was a lot happier with his job, and this year, he will probably out earn me.

Now, I know I can't give up my day job just yet, but finding this Wealthy Affiliate is truly a start. I will devour the information. I will probably ask a lot of questions that have been asked a thousand times before, but hopefully, not too soon in the future, I will finally be able to say I enjoy my own business success. A success free of goals set by someone else who is all to ready to give me a higher one the next year.
