Consistency
Being consistent is difficult for some of us. In this context, I'm using "consistent" to be synanonymous with "predictable".
For me, at least, 100% consistency is not possible, so I've had to devise some simple tools to get at near the track....maybe not perfectly on it, but moving.
My best tool is a reward. I know, I'm treating myself as a child. So be it. It works. Now I get a reward (some grapes) when I meet my over and over goals. Note that goals came first...and setting those was a struggle.
Next tool is a calendar which I use daily. It alerts me and condemns me when appropriate.the habit of checking it has been with me for awhile.
And finally, I recall instances where being predictable has helped me or others near me. And that really makes me happy.
Being totally predictable will never be me....in fact I don't want that. The GOAL is to do it right in areas that need over and over. But not rote, instead a high level of similarity.
Once I attended a piano concert given by a young man...just he and his piano. After he finished, someone requested that he play a piece that was famous - ubiquitous and familiar to all. He did that to a rousing and lengthy bravo. As we drank coffee, I asked him how often he had played that piece. He thought for a moment and said "thousands of times." I asked "don't you get bored?" He smiled and replied "I've never played it the same way twice."
That's consistency.
