Headaches

I want to share my life experience with headaches. When I was in my 20's I enjoyed having a few coctails sometimes on friday nights. Hence, TGIF. Since I worked all week I felt like I deserved it. My favorite coctails were rum and cokes. Then I graduated to Bicardi and coke and Captain Morgan and coke. I also loved Margaritas, Schnapps, white russians, sangria, basically any sweet drinks but three was my limit and I didn't mix. So when I did indulge, on saturday morning I was NOTa happy camper. Hmmmmm? I wonder why? Well, ya, uugghh! OH NO!! OH YES!! HEADACHE!!! (another word for hangover) uugghh!

I would go into the medicine cabinet and grab some over the counter pain killers. Then I would go to the freezer and grab some ice and put it in a plastic zip lock bag and tap it around my head and neck.

I would open the blinds and look ouside and the sun would be shinen all over the place, the sky was blue and the puffy white clouds were slowly making their way across the sky. OMG! what a gorgious day!! Another gorgious day in paradise. Naples,Florida.

I always wanted to go to the beach. Ya, I think I'll go get ready and go to the beach. No. forget it. I can't. I have a headache and it really hurts too much. I can't go out in the sun its too bright and I don't wanna be suffering in front of people and ruining their day.

Back to bed in the dark room.

Some saturday nites I would work at a second job and if I had one of my headaches that day I remember taking up to 1800 mg of ibuprofen before going to the job and still having the headache until I got home at 11:45pm. Then, I would take an extra strength sinus/allergy pill or two or up to three and become drowsy and fall asleep. Next morning awake feeling a little medicated but Yay!! No Headache!!.

I consumed quite a bit of ibuprofin, extra strength excederin and extra strength sinus/allegy pills. The sinus/allergy made me drowsy so I could only take them when I was at home.

These headaches continued and I finally realized one day that I was getting them when I hadn't had any alcohol for over a week or two. I decided to go to a doctor. I was given allergy meds to try and try and try and try, etc. I was prescribed Claritin, Allegra, Zertec, Singular, Flonase, Rhinocort, Astelin to name a few that I remember.

I gave up. I was done with the doctors practicing on me. This was now after 1992 and then I was 40 something years old. So I carried on the best I could and I just wanted to be happy. Being pain free was being happy to me.

IN 2014 I finally decided to go to a homeopathic doctor. I think I was 60 years old. I found a nice female homepathic MD who left the medical industry for the natural healing industry. I told her I think I am suffering with sinus headaches. I asked if there was a natural cure. She directed me to get tested for FOOD ALLERGIES! RIght away! She did not mention any medications. I was so shocked about her not wanting to use me for practice. ( Here try this here try that.)

I got the test and my results. Turns out eggs are the worst food for me. Funny story about eggs. I was about 8 years old and my aunt Rose was taking care of me and made me a soft boiled egg with a slice of toast buttered and cut into strips for dipping into the egg yoke. I loved that as many people do. But I hated the taste of the egg whites. Aunt Rose made me sit there until I ate the egg whites which took me about a day and a half. Well maybe not that long but it felt like it to me. I choked down as much as I could and felt like throwing up.

I never got headaches back in those days. Back to my test results. So the next terrible things for me to eat are gluten, wheat, dairy, to mention a few. Yes there are more. I couldn't believe it! I left the office somewhat depressed but also somewhat happy to start my new way of eating eliminating these foods. I was so looking forward to not having headaches.

I was extremely careful for three months and can honestly say it worked! To this day I know I have to stay away from eggs, wheat, gluten and dairy or plan on having a headache. It may take 3 or 4 days for the headache to rear its ugly head. Thats what makes it so hard to determine which foods are the cause. I have to be mindful of what I eat at all times. Some things may be gluten free but when I read the ingredience they have eggs.

I got this insperation to write about this subject from reading the live chat section here at WA. Someone is leaving because she is suffering with excrutiating pain. She is taking prescription medication and it is not helping. Obviously!! I asked her if her doctor suggested a food allergy test. Guess what the answer was. The answer was NO. I am so appalled that a doctor would send someone away to suffer like that!! I know different people have different issues. But this person is in excrutiating pain.

I sent her some info and I hope she will at least try to start TODAY to eliminate eggs, wheat, gluten and dairy it will not hurt and it might be the answer to her nightmare like it was to mine. Its not an easy way to live but for me its the only way and no medication!!!

I'm also afraid of how this INFLAMATION in my head when I have a headache is affecting my blood vessels and wonder if It could possibly cause something to happen that could be fatal. I quit all pain killers a few months ago because I don't trust the side affects from them. I have a constant ringing in my ears I think its called tinnitis and I wonder if all the over the counter pain killers that I have taken for so many years have caused it.

Thank you for spending your time here with me. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask. I wish all of you to have a happy, healthy, long and prosperous life! Deb/floridagrany

Deb, after I read your first paragraph, I wanted to stop but I just couldn't. As I read on, I kept wondering, is there anything Deb didn't drink? I am sorry to hear about the pain you had to endure, but I couldn't stop laughing. I thought it was amusing. Despite the awful headache you just kept on drinking. I've been around for a long time, and I've never heard of anyone taking 1800mg of Ibuprofen.
I understand that this was not a fun time for you, so please forgive my laughing. This story really grabbed my attention. That is engaging writing. I love it

ROnald- I am truly happy if I can make someone laugh I love it, absolutely!! Laughing is the best medicine!! We release endorphins by laughing. Lets start a laughing group!! LOL!! You are so funny I cant type now- I don't, LOL, I don't like strong drinks and now I indulge in a White Russian on occasion but am borderline diabetic for 13 years and have to be careful with sugar plus I have to make my own at home with almond milk because am lactose intolerant (all this probably from drinking in my 20"s) but that's ok cause I do not drink and drive. And its DELISH!!!
and it is also fattening. UUGGHHHH!!! Well, back then I didn't have a headache on Friday nights when I started drinking, but waiking up on the morning after--AAAAHHHHH!!!! Close the curtains!!!!!! and I thought (maybe this time I wont get a hangover). SURPRISE!! RISE AN SHINE DEBI!!! Thanks for your honesty, and for reading my blog your great!!!Deb

Now, I can exhale. After I posted my comment, I started thinking that you may be upset or even hurt by what I said. I am glad you saw the humor in your story. You are a good sport, Deb. Thank you.

ROnaldE1-AAAWWW!!! You made me laugh!!! Thank you!!! Deb

RonaldE1-hi wanted you to be the first to know I just published a blog I named "E-Mail" you might get a kick out of it. Hope this finds you in good health, happiness and Success!!Deb

Hello Deb, please send me a link to your last posting "E-mail" I would love to read it

RO-I'm sorry I don't know how to sent a link. can you tell me ? Deb

Hello, again Deb! Asking me for help you is like asking the blind to lead the blind. The link to your "E-mail" post is right here and I didn't see it. Anyhow to answer your question, to send me the link would be; www.your website/e-mail. I hope that is correct. if it is not, just go to the top of your page where it says, "need help Deb? Ask your question here..." or ask it in the classroom.
By the way, I read your E-Mail post. You are doing a great job sharing some of the things you encounter. A lot of us encounter similar problems but never share. Some of us will benefit greatly from the questions you ask.

Hi RO- Thanks for reading my E-Mail blog, I still have to delete a dot to get to my email. Is that crazy?? or is it me??? Thanks friend, say HI to Mrs. RO-Deb

Thanks for sharing I will pass this on.

Hi Mick- How are you doing? thanks for reading my blog and passing it on-Deb

I was in extreme pain waiting for hip replacement, but had a few months to go before the surgery. My health people ganged up on me and put me on an elimination diet that took 13 foods out of my diet! These included dairy, wheat, chocolate, shellfish, eggs, corn, soy, peanuts, strawberries, and three others that I can't remember right now. You take all these foods out of your diet and then add them back in, one at a time. Eggs was one that I am not sensitive to. Different people will be sensitive to different things, so it's best to take them all out and then add them back in. The one I was on was called the anti-inflammatory diet. I'm sure someone could find it online if they are interested.

Hi F- Yes the elimination diet is a lot cheaper than paying for a food allergy test also. Thanks for reading my blog. Always nice to hear from you. Deb

It's Fran -- you are welcome to use my first name.

Thanks Fran

Good sharing and thanks for your information.
Cheers

Hi Pastor- how are you? thanks for reading my headache blog. An elimination diet is a lot cheaper than the food allergy test and it may not be covered on insurance. IF you know someone that suffers with headaches please recommend eliminated the four top instigators of headaches. Eggs, wheat, gluten and dairy. Thanks have a happy healthy day.

What a great read Deb! My daughter suffers so from headaches, and she has never drunk alcohol. I'm going to share this with her. Thanks for sharing! Linda

Hi-Linda thanks for reading. Has your daughter had a food allergy test? I would urge her to try the process of elimination for two to four weeks eliminated eggs, wheat, gluten and dairy first- its cheaper than the test.
