How To Become Self-Employed and Self-Educated To Success ?
The 2008 Financial Crisis isn't over. Everyday, more and more employees suffer from cost cutting at different levels in their companies. However, the number of self-employed stays constant and even increases in the UK (The Telegraph) and in USA (Harvard Business Review).
How people decides to become self-employed in such hostile environment when companies are hunting the last cent and postpone their investissement? Why self-education is important for them?
First of all, there are some well known advantages in becoming self-employed: you are independent, you can escape from routine, you have more freedom on your activities, and you can earn more because companies will be ok to pay you a little more than if you were employee because they don't have the long-term committment
There are also some disadvantages: you can be "fired" without notice (seeing your contract stopped), there is more risk because you need to be sure you have always work to do, you have fewer benefits like retirement plan taken care by your employer, some companies could be reluctant to contract with you, and you will pay more taxes.
It seems that the advantages outweight the disadvantages because as said, the number of self-employed does not decline. This trend has been confirmed in a recent article posted in HBR (Harvard Business Review) for the USA - "Where are all the self-employed workers?", but also in The Telegraph for UK - "Pension fears for rising number of self-employed".
So you want to become a self-employed?
If you want to become self-employed and if you want to have success, one of the first step is to think about what you know, what you have learned and make a little assessment on what you are lacking as information or skills. You should tackle this lack of skills as soon as possible, and be ready to open your mind to new methods and technologies.
The key point is then to go and acquire new skills, new ways of marketing yourself, new ways of doing business. The traditional self-employed that do all by itself is gone or soon will be. Now the self-employed shoud be flexible, highly skilled and should master the new technologies.
In my humble opinion, there is room for a new self-employed job. Let's call it Information Broker. This job is for those ready to learn how to sell the right information at the right moment. This job is for those who want to stand out off the crowd.
It seems that everybody is online marketer nowadays. But there is plenty room for smart online marketer, that is anybody who has knowledge and skills to share. I recently wrote a blog post on "5 Ways to Master Online Marketing" and that put all this in perspective. In this article I outlined how anybody could stand out off the crowd by starting a blog on a specific domain with a set of well targeted keywords.
If you want to have success as a self-employed or not, you should start thinking how to invest in you, how to invest in your knowledge. This doesn't have to cost you that much. If you start your business you could register for online courses. For example for less than $1 per day there is a large knowledge base in marketing and local business strategies. They are also providing ressources for free in their starter package.
Where? Right here. When? Right now. You just have to click on "Create a Free Account" to start educating yourself to the online marketing and master the new wave in doing business online!
