I don't know how to ask this without sounding like I'm assuming everyone besides me is an idiot but I assure you that isn't the case.

Even my landing page is based off of

There's nothing wrong with your explanation. You write well and you write simply.

I think where you fall down is the layout. Yes the paragraphs are broken into small chunks, but you don't have many images, you're not using subheadings and bullet points.

The result is that there is an awful lot of text which people may not tackle because there is not enough signposting to tell them that it is worth reading.

Only about 16% of readers read an entire post.

So I think your content is great but I don't think it's accessible enough as it stands.

Beverley

I see your point and will have to decide what I can do to entice readers to keep reading. Thx for your input.

It is a good running start! I liked it. It is a bit long but that may be just me. NICE SITE....KEEP IT UP!

Yeah. I don't know how to cut that down either. I want people to try the little exercise as well as make them understand that rerprogramming literally can change ones entire life.

Oh yeah,,, I have several keywords in there also and needed 1500 words minimum.

That is the question.

This isn't a dig or complaint so don't antone interpret it as such k?

I posed that question last week to two people that have been doing this a

I am so sorry that I offended you. It was never my intention to insult you at all. My comments were strictly about your site, I never made this personal. Once again I apologize.

You have the right to refuse to listen to anything anyone says in any thread on WA. Just be aware that when you post a thread on WA, it becomes public and the public is free to comment however they wish, as long as they are not disrespectful.

All comments given are to help you achieve your goals with the least resistance possible. They are not personal attacks, so there is no need to constantly defend yourself against them. Once again I apologize for offending you as that was not my intention at all.

Oooook kkkkkk. Since I'm picking up what are veiled insults allow me two things and then I'm gone from this thread for good.

Newbie to WA doesn't imply newbie to IM. It only implies WA offers something I feel I can take advantage of.

Second, by the standards of those in this thread Carson is correct yet the fellow that created the Hummingbird video is wrong in preferring a static landing page yet both are successful.

I didn't start the thread asking for advice and I'm sorry for even starting the thread.

At the moment I'm agitated enough with a few responses that I'm banning myself from the forums.

Regards one and all.

It would also do you good to remember that you build your site for the users and the user experience, not for you. If people that have experienced success in this game are suggesting that it would be better for you to have a recent posts page, yet you as a newbie insist on having a static landing page and then justify it by implying that your potential audience is too lazy to click on the recent posts section that you have conveniently place on the side for them...?

Then you tell me, are you building this site for you, or for the user?

You forget that people don't accidentally land on your pages. The whole point of your site is to target an audience that already knows about your niche and are interested in what you have to say about this niche. If you feel that your audience needs an explanation page so they know what your site is about, then you need to go back and refine your niche and its target audience.

Remember, you are positioning yourself as an expert in this niche, so its ok to be as specific and as comprehensive as you need to be in order to build an audience from those who have an interest. in Quantum Physics. This is why you want to go with the recent posts front page, so they can see what you have to offer/say about the subject.

It's impossible to get everyone to your site, then try to convert them once they get there. Hopefully your keyword research is showing you that you have plenty of people already interested in Quantum Physics to build a large following, without the need to explain what your site is about.

I appreciate the feed back from one and all and recognize all are trying to be helpful. However, allow me to explain my reasoning for my decision. First, the sites keywords have absolutely nothing to do with quantum physics. The sites number one keyword is holistic which has 49,500 monthly searches with competition that doesn't frighten me one bit. Mine is better.

I have 8 other kw's worked into the current landing page and scattered throughout the posts. The sites focus is on learning to reprogram ones subconscious mind in order to improve ones life
which is backed up by quantum physics. Not quantum physics itself.

I comprehend fully that there are those that will come to the site from a kw and land on a post and possibly stay awhile and still see the landing page.. That's also one of my own points to the conversation and renders a static landing page moot. My point is if someone got there from a kw then they are on the proper page already static landing page or no.

If I happen to be page 3 on page one of Google and someone clicks my url out of curiosity will the landing page pique their curiosity? I dunno. Does anyone here know? Of course not.

If someone is a returning visitor and they are to lazy to nudge their mouse pointer a few inches to the side bar to click on the latest post I dunno what to say.

I cannot please everyone. It's impossible and that's probably even backed up by quantum physics as well.

It boils down to me making the decision of what I think is the best choice for someone to see when they first stumble onto the site because I'm the one that fully understands my intent and my content.

If someone is returning to my site then I'm going to assume they are competent enough to nudge their mouse pointer to the side bar and click on the latest post.

Again I appreciate the feedback and I understand the intent but the OP wasn't even intended to be taken as a question from me. I had hoped I had worded it so that it was taken in a manner that those building a site should use their best judgment based on their product.

The reason I even made the post is because I had advice from two individuals from here that stated I should go with no static home page and the Hummingbird video stated he preferred a static home page. In short, the available material and people here gave me conflicting advice
and my hope was to possibly offer something up for those who may also have had that same conflicting advice.

Regards.

I have to agree with Bev on this one. Unless your static page is going to fully capture your audience then recent posts are your best option as it will show readers when fresh content is being added and how often. But, the final decision is yours to make so you do what makes you comfortable. good luck.

Bob - I understand what you're saying but I still think you should do recent posts. Not only does it allow people to see at a glance what's current, it also shows them every time they visit that your page looks different.

Normally I would agree but go to my site theinnerself.org and instead of reading the landing page randomly click on one of the posts in the sidebar, read it and then decide if you fully understand what the site is about. If you do fully understand what my intent was, say it in such a way that my head doesn't get so big my wife will feel it necessary to deflate it a bit. Thx in advance.

Bob - I have been to your site!! I have been more than once. You asked for feedback. You asked the question - I gave you my opinion. I don't just give it - I go and have a look and give a considered reply. I gave it with no expectations that you would follow it - but I did already look thoroughly. That's fine. You do whatever you want to do.

If I offended I humbly apologize. That wasn't my intent. I'm taking into consideration I can't possibly please everyone and I alone have to make the ultimate decision on whether or not I'm doing right by those who land on my site for the first time. Those who have already been there may already understand yet can find recent post links conveniently in the side bar. If a person is to lazy to move their mouse to the sidebar and click.......

Don't worry about it- but I am known for always giving very thorough feedback. I wouldn't give it unless I had, had a good look. You must do what you think will work for your visitors. You know them best.

Here are three links that can help you find a niche......

http://www

Great info! I'm really leaning toward Amazon as my first affiliate program but I know narrowing down is going to be rough.

Becoming an Amazon affiliate is part of the training here at WA, so definitely become one. But before you do you will need to have a functioning website before they will accept you. Your website does not need to be complete but they do require you to have one with a fully complete Privacy Policy page without any of the placeholder web addresses that are in the one that Kyle provides for all of us here at WA to use.

You also must know what your chosen niche is before you sign up for an Amazon affiliate (Associates, as they call it) program because they will ask you what it is. So you will still have to come up with a niche before you join Amazon.

I am actually already an Amazon affiliate. I began blogging around 2002 to 2003, and had some product links back then. I also had ads on my blog, and made a few sales here and there through Amazon, but never enough to make a living or even a part time come. I hope to get my head in the game and really make some money now.

That's great! So that part of the training you have already done. Now you will just have to sign up with at least one Affiliate Network like LinkShare, Clickbank, or CJ. Depending on the niche you select you will have to review each network and see if they provide the companies you wish to affiliate with.

I recommend LinkShare because they represent Fortune 500 companies and smaller companies too. One of my niches was video games and LinkShare represents Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Best Buy, Tiger Direct, GameStop,... But like I said, depending on the niche you choose you will have to review each network to see which one is the one you will want to join.

Great question, I'm no SEO expert but I've been tinkering with SEO for a few years. From what I understand an RSS feed in no longer considered real content. So your page (assuming that is was all RSS feed) would be considered a blank page by Google Penguin and would get very low ranking. This change in policy happened with the Google Panda update in 2011. Hope this helps

No. The software converts the feed into text and posts it to your designated page/s in chronological order so that it is now real text.

I tried it out and was impressed but then the question of duplicate content came into my mind.

The odds of someone else using the same rss feed for the same content is probably low and the source feed may very well using the content fed into the fed on their site.

What I'm hoping to find an answer to is does anyone have any idea if even though I would be giving credit to the source to be fair and honest would I be dinged for duplicate content.

Fletch, it would still be duplicate content, even if you gave credit and placed a link. Google is trying to do away with ranking sites that use what they call "black hat" ranking tactics. It's been like that for a while now.

Several years ago there was a rash of people and products devoted to this practice (I've even used some myself) today there are only a handful left compared to what it used to be.
