So, What Do You Think Of Artificial Intelligence?

After my blog yesterday about writer's block, I received three comments all stating that, by using Artifical Intelligence, we can eliminate writer's block. It's very true that by using AI, you can come up with countless ideas about a subject. So, what do you think of Artificial Intelligence?

It certainly can be considered a new labor-saving device. It seems to be slowly revolutionizing the way we look at creativity. Like the washing machine, it has made some things in life much simpler.

I, for one, would not like to regress to doing my laundry by hand, instead of in a machine. I've tried both methods, and find the machine much superior. I have also used AI to generate a list of topics on a subject I wished to write about.

From that list, I could choose one and ask for specific information about that particular topic. I could receive a page or more of data in the length of time it took to reproduce it on my screen.

Marvelous! What's not to like?

However, the comments about the elimination of writer's block got me thinking. Is there a down side to this new technology? To satisfy my curiosity, I went to the source, and asked AI, "What are the drawbacks to using AI for augmenting creative thinking?

I got a list of 10 such drawbacks, and will share them with you: (AI included a definition with each of these terms, and I rewrote them in my own words.)

  1. Lack of genuine creativity: While AI can generate novel ideas by combining existing information in new ways, AI may lack genuine creativity and originality that humans possess.
  2. Bias and limitations of training data: The data may contain biases inherent within it, thus potentially limiting the diversity of creative output.
  3. Overreliance on data: Using this data might not capture a wide range of perceptions.
  4. Inability to grasp emotional nuances: It's a challenge for AI to create emotional resonance or empathetic creative works.
  5. Difficulty in handling ambiguity: AI is designed for precision and certainty and may struggle with the fuzziness inherent in many creative processes.
  6. Ethical Issues: Uses such as copyright, intellectual property, and potential for automated content generation can replace human creations.
  7. Human-machine collaboration challenges: There is a need to understand how to leverage AI while maintaining unique streams of human creativity.
  8. Complexity and lack of transparancy: It is important to understand how AI arrives at a particular creative output.
  9. Resource Intensiveness: This technology can be intense in terms of computing power, time, and expertise.
  10. Fear of job displacement: Will you be replaced by AI? We must strike a balance between human and AI contributions.

Interesting, to say the least! I think as long as we use AI as a tool and not an end in itself, we can do well by using this new resource. However, I also think it's important that we don't become complacent and allow our own creativity to wither and die.

Yes, balance is key here. AI must remain our tool and not our master. The core of this blog came from information I received from AI. So, who wrote the blog? How much of it depends on my own creativity? Perhaps the original question.

So, tell me, what do you think of AI? How do you see using this tool to enhance our own creative ideas? Does it strike fear in your heart, or cause you to rejoice because now we have a new way of learning?

Let me know what you think.

I totally agree with you, Fran! I don't need an AI writer writing for me.

Jeff

Oh, I still want to do my own writing, but can definitely see an advantage to using this new tool. I don't feel we have to replace our own creativity, but can use AI to enhance it.

I think that you are right, Fran.

I just finished an article using AI, Fran.

It takes minutes to generate a decent basic structure and two hours to edit, fact-check, and make it mine. That doesn't sound logical somehow, but...

Is it perfect? Far from it. I make sure to add personal anecdotes and/or goofy phrases that AI seems incapable of, and I always give AI some original copy of my own to follow for style.

AI is devoid of spirit and pushes through information like a bull in a china closet. It's repetitive.

I use it all the time. Love it!

Dave

A good report on its value. Thank you!

You are welcome, Fran. I look at it as a business tool. My main site is all business. If I were to write seriously (which I am undoubtedly incapable of), I would not use AI. That would be pointless, in my opinion.

Your point is well taken, but I do feel it definitely has its value and may well be the wave of the future. I feel it's important to understand how it works and to use it at our discretion in ways we feel are useful.

Yes, indeed, it has incredible value. I use it every day.

Yes, AI does have drawbacks, but you can revise them and put your spin on the information. Ensure that the data they output is relevant and current; some are from 2021, and some are up to April 2023. It's just a tool to help speed up our productivity.

Fran, It is not meant to be a copying and pasting tool. It just enables you to get your writing moving with more structure. The drawbacks I see are primarily repetitive and hallucinating words. I revised it to my terms. There will always be a human behind it. People who copy and paste words are using total plagiarism. They aren't using their brains like they should. They are the ones who will get in trouble. Google does not reward them. Remember, at the end of the day, we must follow Google's stance with its updates, which helps create content that proves experience and expertise. AI can't give personal experience because it is not sentient.

Sometimes, AI tools give me stuff that I never thought about adding, so I will add them but use my spin and verify the source.

The only reference I use more often is Bing ChatGPT version 4, and it is up to date because it is until April 2023. It does read the Internet. So far, Bing has given me answers and the data research from other websites so that I can use those as my external links. It's hard to scour the Internet to find external links relevant to my keywords. Bing ChatGPT does that for me.

Fran, if you have not used it, please check it out. You have to use the Microsoft Edge browser to gain access to BingChatGPT; it also can create AI art for your blog posts. I have used those, and of course, I credit by saying Made with Bing AI Art with a link to their AI art site. Simple as that.

Oh, I agree that it's not a copy and paste tool...that's what allows us to use a bit of our own creativity to utilize the data it gives us.

Will certainly try BingChatGPT. Thanks, Brenda.

Sure, you are welcome.

Hi Fran

I'm all in with AI, but we need to remember that it is a tool to assist us, not a replacement to completely eliminate any effort on our part.

Those who don't embrace AI will be very unlikely to compete as online marketers in the short run.

Frank 🎸

Most likely, you are right, Frank. 'Twill be interesting to watch it happen.

Hi Fran

I think you’ll be amazed how easy it is to use once you get rolling with AI. 😎

Frank 🎸

I believe that the use of AI to build complete online businesses will explode in the new year and we must all embrace that opportunity.

We'll all be watching, Phil.
