I receive daily quotes on my website, and this morning's was so right on, I want to share it. It's from John Henry Patterson. He said, "To get your ideas across, use small words, big ideas, and short sentences."
What a good summation of how to write effectively! If we can remember those three factors when composing, we can certainly present an effective bit of content for our readers.
We don't need highfalutin' language...in fact, I think the more personal and natural we can make our writing, the better off we are. It's called "communication." If we can write as we talk, we're going to reach our reader much easier.

Have a conversation with your reader. Make a point of your main ideas, but do it in such a way that it's understandable to practically anyone who reads it. No matter how grand your ideas, if others don't understand them, you won't make headway.
One thing i've noticed in my Writer's Group. If a sentence is too long, someone is sure to suggest, "Make this sentence into two sentences." When you edit what you have written, make sure to consider such things.
Tell a story; create a conversation; make your ideas personal and to the point, and your reader will be more apt to enjoy what you have written.
