Five Months Into My Journey
Here I am, five months in. My first site is fairly well-developed, though could use more content. Problem is, I'm out of ideas... mostly. Time has been an issue for me lately, and the ideas I do have required quite a bit of time and effort to move on, so I haven't. Even so, I'm ranking #1 for a couple of keywords on Bing and Yahoo, but haven't yet seen any conversions. Traffic is a fickle trickle.
Inevitably, I've come to the conclusion that I'm not properly targeting. I'm targeting keywords with limited traffic, but ones I could rank for quickly. I figure the amount of traffic would increase as article keywords rank, but the organic traffic is limited (500 or so unique users, though most of them are likely WA members ;) ).
I've put a lot of time in this first site, and quite frankly, I'm a bit burned out and have taken a break for a bit over a week now. I've also taken a similar break from WA, which is why you haven't seen me begging for comments lately. ;)
About 10 days or so of not posting anything, and my ranking has gone from low 20K to well over 100K. Wow! That's brutal!
I'll be going on vacation in a week or so, and imagine that I'll be unranked by then, as I don't expect to be very active in WA between this post and when I go on vacation. I'm simply too busy with work and vacation prep (I'm beach bound!!)
In any case, I've decided to move forward with a second site. It's one I won't run out of ideas for, but might have limited numbers of related affiliate programs. Oh well. This one will be far more fun than work. Sorry, not going to reference it in WA, at least for now. I don't want anyone to hate me. ;) [It's a political blog, and I want to stay friends with my WA family.]
While I'm a bit disappointed in my traffic and lack of conversions - especially given all the work I've put in, I'll keep on keeping on. It will come, eventually. I just need to keep plugging away while honing my skills.
I'm posting this in case there are any others like me who have put in a lot of effort, but have yet to see any reward. My take going into this was that it's a long-term play, not a short-term gain. Some may not have gone into this with the same mindset, and may be thinking of giving it up. It's disappointing to not see results after months of hard work, and disappointment can lead to bad decisions.
Giving up is a bad decision, as you'll never win if you give up. I still plan on winning. I'm not even giving up on my first site. I'm just taking a break from it until I can come up with a quality post. While I'm coming up with some more ideas, I'll work on my second site. There are no shortages of political things to write about, that's for sure.
So, it's fingers to the keyboard and full speed ahead! (Well, after I get back from a much-needed vacation, anyway. ;) ) Success comes to those who dream, work hard, and refuse to give up.

Just remember it's a journey. Have patience and enjoy your holiday. We will all be here when you get back. Only we'll be further up the rankings lol!!

Hi,
I can definitely relate to your post and I believe that most people here at WA too, but I love the fact that you’re still dreaming, still fighting, and believing. 100% right that people who quit never win and winners are those who stay still the end.
I’m sure there is light at the end of the tunnel and you are almost close to the surface of breakthrough. So keep the fire burning when you get back.
Enjoy your vacation.

This is why WA is a great way to build your business. You can't under-estimate the value of community - especially when you're struggling to get going.
Encouragement goes a long way. Quitting leads to nowhere worth going.
