Which is Your Preferred Way of Learning?
Many of us like learning but some do not like too much reading. This is where video sites like Youtube come in handy. You can learn by watching and listening rather than reading.
Personally I generally prefer the reading option. That way if I have to divert my attention for any reason then I can come back to the point I left at. I know this can also happen with videos but I have come across videos I can't do that with.
While I should be somewhere so I won't be disturbed that is not always possible. Illness in the home so you are listening for a partner or child/parent needing your help. There are many reasons why I like working from home and part of that is I can choose the hours I work and the times at which I do the work.
I believe I learn more by reading and taking notes, while I am sure there are others that prefer to watch or listen and take notes. None of these methods is wrong, it is more about which one you prefer to work with.
I tend to work better with my notes and the retention of knowledge seems to be greater for me that way. I have no proof of this, but it is what I feel after trying both methods.
So, which is your preferred way of learning?

I prefer both actually, both for knowledge and remembering what i learned.
If i really have difficulty understanding a concept, i take a blank sheet of paper and write the concept down in the middle of the sheet, then break it down in a tree like diagram from there.
I do this with brainstorming new ideas i come up with as well. Nowadays you can also do that on phone or tablet.

Derek,
Good thought you get out there. I have a bit of a background in instructing and still teach two nights a week.
There are entire courses on lesson planning and one of the key points is to mix audible, visual, and hands on. Everyone learns differently.
It is proven that people learn the most from teaching others or demonstrating what they are learning.
To follow you up, all I can say is no matter how you do it, keep learning! You will be better for it and no one can take that away from you.
Cheers to WA for sharing all of this knowledge!

Everyone has their own way of learning Chad. I remember this from my time as a driving instructor. At least here we get the choice of how to learn.

Great article. I like reading, too. I can take my time. It's quiet. I'm not sharing what I'm learning with those who don't want to hear it. I also like to take notes in OneNote if it's related to my website. Sometimes for personal notes too. I love learning and I love reading, also. :)

Great topic. Personally, I like to follow someone actually doing the thing, and doing it myself as well. I'll often watch a video of the thing being done, and I'll stop/start the video and perform the action on my other screen. Bit disjointed, but I'm doing stuff at the same time. Works for me with online tasks.
We all have our own ways of learning Colin. It is just a case of choosing which is best for you.

I like all formats - and ideally combined. I love to read, like to watch videos and also like audio (audio is also great because I can listen as I do other work).
I teach my own course the same way (increasingly so) using multiple interconnected formats.
Great topic and great questions!
Best regards,

Thank you LD.
