Kicked Out and Reapply at Amazon Associates

Last Update: August 04, 2015

Here's my experience with Amazon and I'm wondering how you deal with it. The facts are as follows: after 180 days as an associate I couldn't make a referral credits, so they "kicked" me out of the program. I'm still in the build up phase of my site, so the traffic is just picking up.

Now, I can reapply any time, so far so good. But they recommend to wait until the traffic is big enough. Also the offer advice how to improove the chance of getting referrals. Here's what I've done.

  • I added (and still am) new products on my referral page.
  • I tried to enhance my comments with more quality content.
  • I'm blogging once a week in avarage.

Up until now my daily traffic is around 40 (see stats below) expecting to grow after the summer pause. So what would you do? Wait for more traffic or is it enough in order to have reasonable chance in getting referrals?

I'm anxious to hear from you, Stefan

Oh yes, I just had to reapply and replace the URLs. Well, my problem is, that living in Europe I can't ask friends to by the first item from Amazon.com within 6 months

I'm still waiting for the first one. So I take the chance and ask you, if you could help me. Once you've klicked on any link of mine and order anything else, I'll get the referral. Could you agree to that?

Here's my page:

In return I'm happy to support you with a couple of comments or a guest post, whatever you wish.

Thank you so much for your attention,
Stefan

Hi Stefan, That first sale to make Amazon keep you in the program is always a problem. What some people do, is to ask a friend....preferable one that live far away and are not related to you, to buy something, Ask him to buy something you want for yourself, you pay him back and he give you the product.

Since you are not allowed to sell to family or friends, it have to be someone that is not too easy to associate with you.

I don't use Amazon, but are thinking of applying for their program, and when I do, I will ask someone to buy something for me if I don't sell anything the first few months.

I don't know your niche, or if what you are selling is pricy or not. If you sell expencieve items it is harder, so make sure you have something affordable to sell too.

When it comes to visitors, you can have 100 one day that buy nothing, and 1 the next day that buys a lot....You never know.

I would reapply right away if they allow it. Good luck

Thanks a lot, Marith!
I have thought of that, but since I'm living in Switzerland, I cannot use amazon.com which is on my site. I refer to many books concerning stress relief, so it wouldnt be a big deal to buy something.

Even if you buy something else coming from my site, I'll get a reward. So applying back is a good idea!

I'd think it doesn't matter what he's selling. If someone clicks on the link and go buy something different you still get commission.

thanks for the reply! I totally agree. For me, it would be great if someone in the states could order just anything over my link. so I don't have to replace all the links again.

Do you use amazon at all? If so, I would be happy to return the favor with anything you need.

tzanks, Stefan

Actually I have the same problem. Just got kicked out as well. I'm based in UK so can't help you out here :( The only thing that comes to mind is maybe try to ask someone like friend to buy a digital product from your link like ebook or something? I might actually give it a go next time after reapplying.
Did you wait long to reapply?

thanks for your reply! Well, this seems to be a common problem. I reapplied right away, ie a few weeks after. But now, I need to get something done.

I try to follow your tipp!

I always order via a WA-member when I order from Amazon. I just got a big order delivered, how many days do you have left?

I received a warning - 60 days after signing up for the Associates program - from them that, if I had no referrals just NINETY days, I would be terminated. What I did was go to another friend's computer, create an amazon account for him (with his permission, of course), and bought him something using the custom link from my site to get to Amazon.

Desperate, I know, lol ... but my site was still very young and the odds of getting a legit sale were at that time slim to none. Traffic was almost , and product clicks were as rare as snowballs in hell.

I received a "Congratulations!" from Amazon, patting me on the back for my "referral/sale", and was assured I was now qualified in the program to continue.

Since then, traffic has grown into the hundreds per day, product clicks are usually a dozen or so per day, and referral/sales are just now legitimately "trickling" in. I estimate it will be a good YEAR from now before my traffic is in the mega-thousands daily and sales are pouring in regularly.

This is a problem with startup sites who want to use Amazon - they are not understanding and patient with startups at all.

Yes indeed, it's not startup friendly. I have now an idea: I might ask someone abroad to buy something rather unexpensive so I fulfill the requirements. You know I live in Switzerland and therefore cannot use amazon.com which is on my site.

You use amazon.uk? I believe they service most of Europe right?
Reply

well, since I'm targeting the american market, I'm using amazon.com. Do you think uk is better?

Oh. No, if you are targeting Americans, then definitely go with amazon.com is the one you want.
