SumoMe Alternatives

Hi Everyone!

Due to the recent problems with SumoMe, some of the members here have decided to end their relationship with that plugin.

Apparently, those problems have now been fixed as you can see from the great follow up from CathyS

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/cathys/blog/answer...

However, this got me thinking about alternatives in case I decide to switch out also so, my question is, what is everyone else using for:

  • Social Shares
  • Email Capture
  • On-Site Stats

Currently, I am using SumoMe for all of the above and, I would hate to have to replace 1 plugin for 3 if I can avoid it and Jetpack is not a viable alternative as it is blacklisted here at WA and causes a lot of problems if you do try to use it.

Also, I read here recently that SumoMe has changed the free account and you can no longer use it for email capture but, I checked my autoresponder and it seems to be pushing subscribers over just fine.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks everyone

Forrest

For Social Share I switched to "AddtoAny" and I like it ok... not quite as customizable as SumoMe (I had my icons matching my theme colors)

For Email capture I already had sidebar "opt in" form s for Mad Mimi and was getting just as many from that as the SumoMe Smartbar.

In addition to capture Mad Mimi has tracking features and integrates with Google Anaytics. So when you get right down to it in my case all I really needed to replace was social share. The other stuff I had was redundant.

I should say that I have been really happy with SumoMe and never would have thought I would change but I am also trying to train myself not to let things hold me back.

My social shares being down for two days cost me money.

I also am the one that read they were going to change the free options to not integrate with mail services. So if that happens it want have much benefit, at all.

Hi Steve,
I had forgotten about Add To Any, I used to use that and I liked it just fine. I only switched it out because I found SumoMe

I had no idea that Mad Mimi had an Analytics tracking feature, I have been hearing good things about Mad Mimi lately so, I may be trying that once I switch out SumoMe because, as you said, without that email integration, it renders SumoMe useless to me except for social shares,

Does Mad Mimi have a contact form feature or, is it just for email capture?

When you switched out the social shares, I am assuming you lost all your share counts?

Thank you for the comment Steve

Thank for sharing AddtoAny plugin I think I will use it instead of SumoMe.

List building is easier said than done. Think twice before adding an opt-in box on your website to build a mailing list.

The hard part with list building is what to do with the list once you have it. Most people do not have the ability to write fresh, compelling content to send to their list day in and day out.
Even the frequency of mailing is debatable. Some marketers say you have to mail to your list every day. Whatever your schedule, you have to do it consistently.

I published a weekly newsletter for over 2 years. It is NOT easy.

If you are just starting out with your website, focus on building it out. Add content, lots of it.

Yes, you are absolutely right Glen and I also have seen many different things ranging from mailing every day or mailing for 3 days in a row and then waiting 3 days to send another.

I have also heard of those who are publishing a newsletter on a weekly or monthly basis and I have seen those that just use it to send notifications of new posts.

Either way, you need some traffic to build a list and then you need to know what to do with that list.

I think Kyle also said it brilliantly in that link that CoachGom posted

Excellent comment Glen, thank you

I used to send the newsletter out vice the notice because my newsletter always had a guest article. I preferred not to have the guest article on my website. This helped the newsletter open rate because readers could only read the guest article in the newsletter.

What a great way to do it.
Your readers came to expect valuable content in the email knowing that info would not be on your site.
Subscriber-only type information
I'm sure you had a very high open rate with this method

Great post and replies Forrest, I also really enjoyed Glen's take on things above here.

Thanks Guys :)

Hi Jozeph
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment
Glad to see you back here again, I hope you have been well and staying out of harms way

That's a great tip. I don't have an email list yet but have been wondering what could be done to make it not annoying and redundant. Thanks, guys.

You're welcome JM, I'm glad you were able to find some valuable tips here.
Kyle's article that CoachGom posted is also a very good read if you haven't seen it yet

Good luck

Yes, I've read it and I agree, it's rather silly to spend time on an opt-in page and all that when you don't yet have the content to drive traffic to. Take care and have a great day!

My Pleasure Forrest, it's always so great to see how we go out of our way to help each other out here. :)

Blessings my Friend

Good stuff Forrest I like to use social shares myself

Thank you Tim

I have temporarily stopped capturing emails as suggested by Kyle in his blog post at http://waystoavoidscamsonline.com/the-money-is-in-the-list-or-is-it.

Next time I do list building, I will just add an opt-in form from GetReponse on my side bar without using any plugin.

For the stats, there we have Google Analytics.

Among the three that are in question, in my opinion, it is only the social share that really requires installing a plugin. Following Kyle's advice, I use Tweet, Like, Plusone.

Hi Gomer
Thank you for the reply,
You are probably doing the right thing as per Kyle's advice.
Way too often I see newer members falling all over themselves trying to do things they are not ready for yet.

Also, I do have Google Analytics and I also have SumoMe set up on my website to draw data from Analytics so that I can see the overview on my site so, I was referring to On-Site Stats

Great comment Gomer, thank you
