I have had the pleasure of playing slo-pitch this season with 2 of my boys aged 17,20. We play on the same team which is quite a dream! I am an emotional ball player and strive to play it like it's the world series.

The last two nights we played a double header (2 games) and a third game. I pitch for the team and enjoy it thoroughly. I don't usually toot my own horn but know I am the toughest pitcher in the league to hit off of. I have to brag somewhere because at 145 pounds I'm not hitting home runs and run as slow as molasses now!

I realized my aged the last 2 nights as I pitched all three games for about 190 pitches. Needless to say this morning I feel like noodle arms! We won all 3 games so some how it makes the pain less!

The point I want to make using ball as an example is maintaining your emotions. It seems the best athletes are those guys that go play day in and day out and you never know what mood they are in! Kawhi Leonard of the L.A. Clippers is this type of person. You can never tell what mood he is in. Some call this bad leadership but I call it quiet and solid leadership.

2 nights ago I was called out of the back end of a double play that I hit into. I knew I was safe, I could hear the ball hit the guys glove AFTER my foot touched the base. My response was "Oh, come on, seriously?" I have to learn to think a lot before I react. Nothing I was going to say or do would chnage the result.

I have a rule of thumb I try to follow but am not very good at. Count to three before opening your mouth because what you say cannot be brought back in. This is especially ture with my three boys. They know what dirves me nuts and they do it. I know an anger response gets me no where as they seem amused by the rise of emotion. Like the ball, nothing I say in anger will get a response I want!

1...2...3 - That's it, that's all it takes to prevent a world of problems. It's so hard though to swallow your pride and opinions - but like many people, there is actually a possibility that what you are saying is wrong or is the wrong reaction, especially if you have not taken 3 seconds to quickly think about your reaction.

As a father of three boys and one with autism who inspired my site www.autismfordads.com remember...

1..2..3 - Have a great day :)
