Alexa traffic analysis is so cool!
I think it's good to actually make WA's blog feature as my WA diary, and hopefully much of it are good news and little achievements.
During my meeting with a friend who is an author for many books mostly related to investing, I have mentioned that I am with Wealthy Affiliate and he immediately checked out its Alexa traffic ranking. He commented that the site has a really good traffic and I think he was pretty impressed.
He sent me the link to download an Alexa extension for Google Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/alexa-tr...) so I can use it myself. When you have this downloaded on your Google Chrome, you can open any website and click on the Alexa icon on the far right hand side of the URL. It will give you the global ranking of that website and ranking in your country among other things, and you can get even more information when you click on the figures.
So I thought of checking my website's rank today. I am at 3.5 million globally; 20,000 in the country where I am. That's okay and I can understand that because my website is very new. But I looked at the two sizable international schools here in the island (about 200 students each from diverse cultures) and one is ranked 4 million and the other is at 5.2 million. Both of them don't have rankings available in this country.
I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! How come my humble site, which has a few articles rank higher than theirs? Their websites have been set-up at least for 5 years now, and they have a ton of articles, photos and other links on the site.
Like I said I have just started using Alexa and still have a lot to know more about it. If you have been using this tool, can you give me your inputs on this? Is this another little achievement of mine, or a false alarm? Because right now, I am ecstatic thinking my site is performing better. Feel free to burst my bubble guys!

indeed.. for some reason as soon as I blogged this, I found an old blog about Alexa.. and reading about it now, my bubble completely bursted. Toinkz!
It is cool to look at the data, just do know that they base their data and rely on people like you to give them data about your "searches". They then try to extrapolate this data to give estimated traffic and assign rankings based on this.
Alexa doesn't actually have a clue how much traffic a site is getting, only you as the website owner would have this information by installing Google Analytics on your site.
thanks Kyle! It was a bit disappointing to have found out about it.. And I assumed they must be reputable being an Amazon product. It would have been a good product if they have addressed the issues as it is very convenient to click the icon and see the stats.
I also checked their "way back" report on one of the international school and they showed what the website looked like in 2012, 2013, 2015.. Thought that was a cool feature too, but then something tells me they gather quite a bit of information.
Now, if I leave Alexa installed, will my information be at risk?
