Here's some tips for making your website's blog posts look better. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need to add image after image after image. Sometimes some basic, clear formatting can do the trick.

In this tutorial I'll show you tips like:

  • Using short, bite sized paragraphs to let your content breathe.
  • Using bold text at the start of a paragraph to highlight its main idea
  • Using accent colors to highlight important content
  • Creating clean, easy to read headlines for scanning
  • Considering using emojis for h3 headings
  • Inserting bulleted lists

Now it's your turn!
👇🏻

💥 What types of formatting / tweaking do you use to make your content that much easier to absorb?
💥 Are your posts typically image-heavy, or word-heavy?
💥 What's your idea of a good text to image balance?

I like this, Eric, never thought of using emojis😁

1

I don't use them in h2s or higher, but for h3s and below, where fitting, it adds a little something visually. They also stand out in your table of contents almost like a "check me out" type of attention getter.

Not sure what h2s or higher, tell me more?

I don’t use them with h2 or h1 headings 👍🏼

This is great, Eric, thanks. I've been using all of these techniques along with lines to split things up. However, I've not used the emojis - I know I can get them from AI or Word, but where can I find those in the editor please?

There’s different keyboard shortcuts to pull up the emojis, depending if your on Mac or PC. For Mac it’s control + command + space. Just google it for your machine. 👍🏼

OK thanks - I'm a PC girl... (sorry!)

I won't hold that against you :)

Great Tips!, I recently started doing similar on my articles. I hated the Block editor when I first started, But now I love it because I can add background colors to different part of my posts for highlights.

You’re getting it! It’s so much easier to do so much more than you can with the classic editor. Great job!

1

The only downside of the block editor is that it's not so easy to use on mobile as the classic editor (in my opinion).

Article creation and publishing isn’t a task I’d ever try to do on mobile. Honestly, anything to do with my site itself is done on a laptop at the very least. Navigating WA is ok via mobile, I do that all the time, but not back office stuff. 👍🏼

Something new , short and simple which can put the reader in the" reading trap " and keep them non stop getting engaged with a content or the post.

Nice! Every little bit helps. Glad you enjoyed this. 👍🏼

These are great suggestions! I do a couple of other things in my posts as well.
- change the background on the lists to make them stand out
- put in tables and use stripes

1

Yeah I like the idea of changing the background color of lists. Even a subtle light grey can be enough to not distract but add emphasis 💯

And alternating colors in tables works really well to be able to read them easier 👍🏼
