Fitting it all in...

After a very motivated and successful start with my WA training after joining in the New Year, I am finding this week to be a bit tough going. Not because I am finding anything difficult here at WA, it is just that real life is taking up my time.

Much as I would love to spend some time here every day doing a bit of training and sharing with the community, I am finding myself becoming frustrated that I cannot.

Can I ask my lovely WA family to give me some tips and advice? How much time do you commit to WA in an average week? Do you do something here everyday, every other day, or only at weekends for example?

I feel as though I should be here every day, and am feeling very guilty that I am not.

Can you suggest little things that you do each day on WA that are proactive, and that keep you motivated?

I write for a living, so after a busy day bashing words out on a keyboard for other people I can sometimes feel too burnt out to work on content for my own site.

Maybe I just need a strong coffee.... or a large glass of Glenmorangie :)

looks like you have gotten some great suggestions already,
I would just add, be gentle on yourself, but do not go easy.

if you can commit & schedule 30 to 60 minutes per day to WA, that should be enough to keep you moving forward

or, if your calendar dictates that you cannot schedule time daily, then make sure that you do schedule regular time -- and put it on your calendar!

when it is less than a committed time every day it is easy to forget and then get lost in the midst of everything else that life throws at you.

hope this helps,

Don't beat yourself up. You can progress even if making notes/thinking of ideas, doing research, discussing with friends etc.

For me I found it helpful:
-to set small tasks for the week and document progress.
-to cut back on other interests (exercise, guitar), or in my case time wasters such as rubbish TV, internet browsing.
(Not saying you waste time :-)
-remember why I'm doing it (for me I want to do something I like rather than my job which I don't like, and to help others as ChristianKid said)

I kinda feel the same after new year, just not enough time. But I try to be around every day even for just a few minutes to keep on track. What I usually do when I am in, I'd always check all the comments left on my space, welcome new members to my family, follow the training, then offer feedback, follow back, offer helps, and make sure my training done to my plan. Another big plus is when you are in, you got to dip around for all the goodies that other members have to offer. I have been surprised by the talents here, and learnt heaps via reading their blogs, member-made training, and joining the discusses.
You're going to love it. All the best:). Hope it helps a bit.
Have a love day:).

One of the things that keeps me motivated is knowing that I'm helping somebody, so, here's my advice: try to help at least one person every day. If you can answer a question or give some advice, you should; it'll increase your rank and it'll help somebody, and when they thank you for it, you'll know you're actually making a difference. I hope that helps!

That's really valuable advice Christian. I am going to go and give a helpful comment to a newbie right now :)

I am just dipping in here between reading a book I have been hired to review. I could at least answer one question or leave a comment when I have read a chapter or so many pages :)

Awesomeness! I'm glad I could help.

And yeah, that would work well (for both you and the people you're helping.)

You know it is frustrating sometimes.... I have been giving myself so much time here... and unfortunately had some problems in the family with my Fathers health.

We have to accept that our lives must carry on and we all have commitments.

When I am not doing anything else I come here.. out of course...

I do also set aside between 3 and 4 hours a day to do some website updates... learn something from the community and do some training.

If you can do a little every day it helps.. even if it is just an hour or so...

If you can manage 2 or 3 hours a day working on here it is ok..

Sometimes i do more and sometimes less.. but i do what i can!!!

Thanks

Chris

Thanks Chris :)

I think my problem is that I want to do too much too soon. You are right - do a little every day, and do what you can :)
