Using Article Marketing to Market in Different Countries

I have a website that needs to be marketed in Australia, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing it. (I'm in the U.S.)

A few things are confusing me and I'm hoping that someone will have some insight on this.

#1 - When I'm researching keywords, am I only seeing results for the country I'm in? I am assuming that I am because when I'm completing a normal Google search, I'm seeing American results and I'm assuming that people in other countries see results for their countries. So, how can I do keyword research for another country?

#2 - When I'm posting articles on my normal article sites--Street Articles, Ezine, etc--is that going to help boost my ranking with the search results for Australia?

#3 - Are .com sites visible in other countries or does it have to be a .au site for Australia, .ca for Canada etc....

Hey Emily.

You can use country specific variations of Google by adding /ncr after the url, ie. http://www.google.com.au/ncr will give you the Australian version of Google. However, many people in countries which have specific flavours still use http://www.google.com

The technique of backlinking from article directories isn't as useful as it once was. Most people now simply post a few initial articles to get a site indexed and initially ranked.

The use of country-specific domains works well where the sales are truly local, ie. using .co.uk for a London-based emergency plumber would be better and easier to rank on http://www.google.co.uk than a .com but if the target market is global, albeit the business is based in Australia, then .com .org and then .net are still preferable.

Thanks for the help @Rich. If I'm using Jaaxy, so you think that these results are okay to use as is or should I use the Australian version of Google? Originally, I was thinking of using the keyword + in Australia, but if someone is in Australia they aren't going to type that! :)

You can certainly use Jaaxy to research and then check the results that you're interested in using by manually checking against http://www.google.com.au/ncr to get a better idea of the competition etc. It's actually likely there's a large percentage of Australian users of Google .com who do add Australia or a city such as Sydney after their searches to limit them geographically. Actually, as soon as I posted that reply, I thought "well I could compare the results from Jaaxy and the Australian Google site." Duh... maybe what I need is to get a bit of sleep. :) Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Richard, if my site using WA hosting will I still able to get rank in my country? I'm from Singapore

The physical location of your hosting isn't important, ie. your hosting might be in the USA, you're creating the website in Singapore and a customer from Australia makes a purchase. Rich.

I considering to build website for local small business. So need to be rank in local. :)

If the businesses are truly local, ie. no sales will be outside of Singapore then you could consider .sg domains which will probably rank higher and quicker on http://www.google.com.sg/ncr However, where the domain is registered and the site physically hosted will have a marginal impact. If you're building multiple sites for local businesses then it might be worth finding a host with a reseller package that is actually physically located in Singapore. Rich.

Thanks for your time to explain to me. I get clearer picture before I start to offer service.
