Content Writing for a Website

Content writing for a website may be one of the hardest things for you to overcome. I know it is for me. Each weekend I struggle with looking for my keywords for articles I want to write during the following week. If I do not have my keywords by Monday morning, my week tends to slip into chaos pretty quickly.

See, I think I may be overthinking this. I don't just want to simply write an article and throw it up on my site. I want to write a good piece of content that answers a lot of questions--questions that I, myself, would ask of the person who sharing the information. So my search for content takes me far and wide. I've tried Jay's method of looking at alternative keywords in Google Webmaster Tools but the keywords I find don't seem to be competitive enough.

My calendar is the only thing that keeps me somewhat organized.

So here I am at Wednesday and I haven't written anything yet. But yesterday when I was randomly looking for something for myself, I came across a decent topic that I think I can turn into not one but two articles. I even managed to find a few keywords yesterday as well. Not a lot but at least a few. I'm hoping I can turn this topic and keywords into two decent articles. If so, I will have met my goal of two articles this week. I'll publish one today and the other on Friday. My goal for today was to have an article to publish by noon here in Ireland. I can probably have the draft done by noon. Then I'll search for images and start setting it up in Wordpress this afternoon. So at least I expect to achieve my goal of publishing an article today.

I also have another site that sells Amazon products and I never seem to have trouble finding products to promote. Problem with that site is that I don't have the time to add to it. I haven't put any content up on the Amazon site for probably six months now.

When I come across a content idea, I have a spreadsheet in Google docs that I add to. That's got some good stuff there but then when I go to research keywords, those topics don't turn out to be so great afterall.

How do you guys find content topics in your niche? It's hard to find topics that no one has already talked about. Maybe that's my problem. Maybe I'm trying to reinvent the wheel? Content writing for a website along with mastering social media are my current challenges right now. I can't seem to find the right daily groove. I'm trying to create good habits and I'm a person who needs structure in my day.

With my noon deadline fast approaching, I gotta post this and get moving!

Thanks for sharing , i am also struggling like you

I really like idea of writing content from keywords. I am really new to this and still formulating an approach. A huge problem I have is that I have always been more a creative writer and tend to ramble and not get to the point (a bit too flowery, as my old English teacher would say). I'm working on it!

I'm still getting my head around keywords. I will have to review this again.
Thanks for such a helpful post.

Glad it could be useful for you, Marilynm1! Alanna

Oh, I have struggled with this too! If I can share some advice, it seems to me like you are putting so much pressure on yourself to meet deadlines, find keywords, and find the 'right' topic to write about. You might find a better writing flow if you take a step back.

When it becomes too overwhelming for me, I just have to simplify everything and ask, "What do I WANT to write about?" Then I just sit down and write 500 words on whatever comes to mind, without stopping. That's called stream of consciousness, and it has helped me get through many a writing block.

A lot of times listening to music (instrumental or music that you know very well seems to work best) to block outside distractions helps, too. If you want, you can try it for a day or two without putting any pressure on yourself, and see if it helps to gel some new ideas!

Thanks for the great idea, RushingBee! I'll try that! You could be right. I'm putting too much pressure on myself! Alanna

No problem. I really hope it works for you!

I find it hard too, find things to write about so your not alone. Cheers Kerry

Hi Keza! Nice to know I'm not alone! Thanks!

I get a lot of my inspiration for posts from Google Images. Maybe that's just the way my brain works lol. I find images which are, (in the broadest way possible,) connected to the ideas I have in my head. When I see an image, the words flow. (Hmm, starting to think I'm probably on my own here lol!)

Good for you! I wish I could get inspiration from images! That would make the process so much easier! I think a lot of it has to do with the niche you are in and how competitive it is.
