March Progress Update – Signals, Systems, and a Few Firsts

April already? Yikes. Where is the year going?

March has felt like a month of small signals starting to show up, mixed with a few reminders that progress isn’t always linear.

Nothing dramatic on the surface - but definitely more happening underneath.

The Gentle Earner – Quiet Growth, Real Signals

This month has continued without any paid traffic, which means everything happening now is organic.

Overall, I’ve seen:

  • An increase in impressions
  • A slight improvement in average position
  • A few more clicks coming through

Of course, I’d love to see more of those impressions turn into clicks — but even seeing them start to appear is encouraging.

A First Comment… and a First Subscriber

One of the more unexpected moments this month was receiving my first organic comment.

Even better, that same interaction led to my first email subscriber.

That was one of those “oh… this is actually working” moments.

It also very quickly turned into a:

“woah… I should probably create an email sequence…”

moment 😄

So that has now happened. It's simple, but it is in place.

Revisiting Older Content

Another small but important shift has been starting to revisit some of my earlier content, the amount I have learned in a short period is amazing and makes me cringe at some of my earliest work.

Looking back, there are definitely posts that could be improved - whether that’s structure, tone, clarity, or just overall quality.

Rather than leaving them as they are, I’ve started updating them to better reflect where my understanding is now.

It’s not the most exciting work, but it is necessary.

Pinterest – Early Movement Continues

Pinterest continues to show early signals.

  • Impressions: 13.39K
  • Engagements: 463
  • Saves: 112 (mostly from one pin)
  • Total audience: 9.93K
  • Engaged audience: 345
  • Outbound clicks: 2

Having a couple of clicks, which is small - but feels meaningful.

It’s easy to focus on what isn’t happening yet, but those clicks are proof that:
someone saw something, was interested, and took action.

It’s still early, and most of the impressions are coming from scout-style pins, just as the Blueprint showed, but the direction feels consistent. My actual article pins are starting to get past 100 or close to it. So I hope that more of those impressions will have turned into clicks by next month.

The Layered Traveller – Early SEO Signals

The travel site has started to show some early movement as well.

In particular, Search Console showed a noticeable jump in impressions over the past few days — going from around 7 impressions to the mid-40s. Again small, but we are only one month in.

It’s still very early, but it’s a clear sign that content is being picked up and surfaced.

Even more encouraging:

  • The first clicks have started to come through
  • Seasonal content appears to be playing a role

The clicks so far seem to be tied to Easter-related content, with a Semana Santa article definitely appearing in indexed results.

That’s been a really useful confirmation that:
timely content can help generate earlier visibility.

The Blueprint Site – Momentum Continues

The travel site (now The Layered Traveller) has continued to move forward steadily.

Phase 1 content is live, Phase 1 pins are scheduled and rolling out, and the site has firmly moved into the execution phase.

There was a short dip in motivation during the month - probably a mix of fatigue, pushing a bit too hard and well just life - and I didn’t start my consistent weekly posting rhythm for the travel site until this past week.

A good reminder that:
momentum doesn’t disappear — sometimes it just pauses.

Systems Are Doing Their Job

One of the biggest differences this month has been how much easier things feel compared to earlier on.

The systems I’ve been putting in place — scheduling, planning, batching — are starting to carry more of the load.

It’s not perfect, but it’s noticeably more manageable.

Less thinking.
More doing.

It was invaluable during my motivation dip, as even though I wasn't actively working much that difficult week, my pre-planning meant that momentum on my sites didn't completely stop.

What I’m Looking At Next

Looking ahead, the focus remains steady:

  • Continue publishing consistently across both sites
  • Let Pinterest data continue to build
  • Begin Phase 2 pins once I’ve clarified a few details
  • Continue refining content and updating older posts
  • Slowly introducing Facebook Reels - I had big plans last month, but let them overwhelm me and had to pause. So I am changing my plan a little bit to make it a bit more manageable.
  • A Medium experiment, which is all scheduled out. Just a wait and see now as the month goes on.

Final Thought

March hasn’t been a big results month.

But it has been a month of firsts and signals:

  • First comment
  • First subscriber
  • First clicks
  • Early SEO movement
  • Systems starting to hold

And at this stage, that’s more than enough. Also given that alot of this momentum built at the end, I am hoping that is a positive indication for April.

Curious to hear — what’s been your “small win” moment recently?
