February Progress Update – Data, Direction, and Momentum

I can’t quite believe we’re already moving through March.
February for me ended up being less about big wins and more about validating direction. Sometimes the most useful months are the ones where you simply gather information and confirm that the path you’re on or discover what needs to change.
That’s very much what February felt like for me.
The Gentle Earner – A Month Without Paid Ads
February was my first full month running with no paid traffic at all.
It did exactly as I expected, reach dropped quite sharply. That wasn’t surprising — when you remove paid amplification, visibility naturally changes.
But that was exactly why I wanted to run the experiment.
What I wanted to see was what the site and social activity looked like without any outside push.
The results were pretty much what I anticipated:
- A noticeable drop in impressions and reach
- Much quieter activity overall
- Maintained impressions, clicks and average position for the most part.
- But still some genuine engagement, including one follower who has been consistently interacting with content
That might sound small, but it confirmed something important for me: at this stage I don’t need large numbers yet. I need the right signals so the steady consistency I build is moving me in the right direction.
Pinterest Experiments
I also experimented with a few different pin styles during the month.
Some of these resulted in lower impressions than previous pins, but interestingly that actually confirmed something I suspected about the direction I wanted to take.
Sometimes experiments don’t tell you what works — they tell you what doesn’t fit. And that clarity can be just as valuable.
The Blueprint Site – Phase 1 Content Complete

The biggest development during February was the start of my blueprint site.
As I mentioned in another post, I decided to frame this project as a case study — not to distract from my main site, but to maintain momentum and apply the WA training in real time.
The site is now live.
I’ve finished writing the articles across the five planned categories. Phase 1 & 2 Pinterest pins have been created, Phase 1 is scheduled, and have begun rolling out.
That alone feels like a significant milestone.
Seeing other members share positive results from similar approaches has been genuinely encouraging. It reinforces the idea that structured systems and consistent execution really can compound over time.
What February Reinforced
Looking back, February reinforced a few things for me:
- Removing paid traffic provides much clearer data
- Experiments often provide clarity rather than immediate growth
- Systems and scheduling remove a huge amount of mental friction
- Starting a second project doesn’t have to derail the first if it’s done intentionally
Momentum feels very different when it’s system-driven.
Plans for March
March will largely continue with the same approach:
- Still no paid traffic
- Continuing to publish consistently on both sites, 2 weekly on The Gentle Earner and 3 weekly on The Layered Traveller.
- Maintaining the regular social media schedule
- Monitoring the rollout of Phase 1 Pinterest pins
Nothing dramatic
Just steady forward motion.
A Possible Medium Experiment
Another small experiment I’m considering in March is publishing a handful of posts on Medium.
The idea isn’t to build a full presence there, but to test whether Medium can act as an additional content discovery channel.
For now this will be a limited test — just a few pieces to see whether it produces meaningful reach or referral traffic. There is only enough time in the day for so many things.
If it does increase reach, it becomes another useful tool.
If it doesn’t, it’s simply another data point.
Final Thought
Not every month needs to look impressive from the outside.
Sometimes progress is quieter than that — systems being built, experiments being run, and direction slowly becoming clearer.
February felt like one of those months.
And I’m looking forward to seeing how March unfolds.
