To Become Really Good, You First Need to be Really Bad

There Is Light at the End of the Tunnel

There is a Rosetta Stone ad I have been hearing on Pandora lately that says something to the effect that before you can become really good at a new language you first have to be kind of bad.

That is true from most everything you do for the first time, including building your first ever website. Sure, there are always the lucky few who are the exceptions, but for the rest of us we have to learn it the old hard way.

When I began building my first site, to say it was kind of awful would be something of an understatement. However, as I continued to learn and continued to work on my site it eventually improved to the point where it was merely pathetic. But I kept plugging along and little by little as I kept learning and doing, I finally developed a web site that is actually kind of good.

Oh, yes, it still needs a lot of work. It is by no means a finished product, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

So, for all of you who are looking at their web site and going “yuck, this is just awful,” remember there is hope. You are going to be bad at building your website before you get to be really good.

There is hope for even the most pathetic website.

Great motivational post and so true.

I remember as a child (about 10 years old). I always made the cup of Tea for my when dad arrived home from work. He always moaned about it, too weak, too strong , tea-bag left in too long, too much milk etc etc. But he always insisted on me making the cup of tea the very next day. It was a learning process and part of the discipline / respect in our household.

I'm still not perfect at making cups of tea, but I have improved. We keep on learning.
