Our Bags Are Packed And My Laptop Is Being Shut Down
Hi Folks,
The day has arrived and we will be boarding our ship for our 14-day cruise tomorrow.
We accomplished a lot in the past few weeks. The leaky garage roof was fixed. The same contractors also took care of replacing our fallen and broken gutter. A few plumbing problems were addressed like a failed garbage disposal unit, a loose kitchen faucet, and a leaky toilet tank.
We thought a leaky pipe under our bedroom floorboards was caused by our cats throwing up over the years on the carpet. I removed the offending carpet segment only to discover a soaking floorboard. It wasn't very comfortable to have this diagnosed by a plumber!
A friend will be visiting our home twice a day to take care of our three cats and two dogs. Plus water the plants as needed.
Amazon has been our friend with all our last-minute purchases. Being able to get stuff delivered the next day when ordered at 10 p.m. was like a miracle.
I am so glad we will have 3 days at sea going and coming since we are boarding the ship close to home. Alaska here we come!
After I return I shall share some of my experiences from this trip.

Glad you are finally getting to make that trip. So sorry I won't be able to meet you, as you will most likely stop in Juneau...it's only a 35-minute flight on a small plane to get to Gustavus from there. If it didn't cost so much to make that flight these days, I'd see if I could come meet you.
I'm sure you will find Alaska beautiful, and, yes, you'll probably need that raingear. It's been raining here the last couple of days and is supposed to continue through next week.

We’re on our third day at sea and will be docking for the first time in Sitka. I forgot to tell you where our cruise will be taking us so here goes.
After Sitka, we’ll be sailing the inside passage to Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Tracy Arm Fjord, Ketchikan and Prince Rupert BC Canada. Looking at the route we will be sailing closer to Gustavia before heading on to Juneau.
We have booked 4 tours. A cultural tour in Sitka including seeing the wild Raptor center. Mendenhall Glacier tour in Juneau.
A bus ride to the Summit in Skagway.
A Skyglider trip at Icy Point Strait.
A duck tour in an amphibious vehicle at Ketchikan.
A final vintage trolley tour in Prince Rupert. We skipped the small boat tour at Tracy Arm Fjord as I get sick easily in small boats.
We’re well set up with clothes to weather the rain and cold weather. It doesn’t look like it will be too cold. Just wet. Hence, we may miss seeing some of the mountains if covered by clouds.
Looking forward to the Alaska experience as presented in tours. I’m sure most of it will be superficial. Time is limited so we’ll appreciate whatever we can.
I will be writing blogs in WA along the way rather than presenting everything at the end since I have Internet connection on board.

Our Mendenhall Glacier tour is from 10am to 1pm. We depart Juneau after 9:30pm. My wife and I are traveling with two friends and I haven’t asked what we will be doing after the tour. I think we’ll be doing a little shopping and then back to the ship.
While the ladies are shopping would be a good time to talk. Hence I can call you between 1pm and 2pm. If your phone is a mobile phone I can text you in advance to confirm. Mary already knows we’ll be chatting by phone.
That Mendenhall Glacier tour is sold out.
Three days look rainy. The others seem fine. 50% no rain, I’ll take that.

Dealing with a constipated cat; can't get hold of my vet. In about an hour (4:30) have to take my computer to a friend's, who got me a new computer. He will transfer files from this one to the new one for me. I really had to twist his arm to get him to agree to do it, so can't miss that appt.

Rather than driving and paying for parking it was cheaper to take an Uber. We were picked up in a Tesla that got us off to a good start.

It’s our first sea day and I’m enjoying the fresh sea air. Last night I slept longer than I’ve done in years. Feeling great today.
I brought my laptop but haven’t used it yet. To access the Internet on my laptop I must logout from my iPhone app.
They’ve dispensed with paper and all cruise business is conducted using a mobile hub.

There’s a bar called The Alchemy Bar where they concoct some unusual drinks. There’s also a band playing there. Many other intriguing bars around. I will be trying out a few.
