I Will Become Competent in Pinterest

or die tryin'!

So yesterday I finished my certification training, leaving me slightly directionless. I resolved to attempt to produce six posts a week - which is essentially doubling my output. Wish me luck! I also resolved to start figuring out my weak areas and developing a course of study to hone my skills.

Social media is one of my obvious weak areas, and Pinterest is the one I seem most clueless about. Yes, I pin. I pin every single post I write, and I also pin other stuff I come across that seems relevant. That's pretty much all I'm doing.

1. I suspect that my pins are pathetic. They aren't the miniature ads of specific size, shape and composition that are designed to get an optimal response from viewers. I understand there are programs to help me make those pins. I am hoping that my Microsoft office suite software will do that too, or that there is something free. At this stage in my affiliate marketing career I do not want to solve every problem I encounter by throwing money at it. One of my deepest fears is that this will simply become an expensive hobby which my loving husband indulges me in. Such an outcome would shame me deeply. I am into this to make money - not burn it. Any suggestions about building better pins without throwing away cash would be gratefully received.

2. I have a vague awareness that there are ways to increase the number of people who see and perhaps even share my pins - but I know nothing of these practices. Again, I understand that there is software out there that helps people manage pinterest - for a fee! I want to do it through my own diligence or with free software - at least for now. Again, I will be grateful for any suggestions my friends and associates here at WA are willing to share.

Thank you, Dear Friends. I am grateful for the advice and encouragement I receive here. You are all winners, and I cherish our association.

Have a wonderful, productive, enlightening day,

Elizabeth

I admire your productivity in writing posts. Have you some tips to be productive?

What I've learned so far, roughly 24 hours into my study of the Pinterest challenge:

1. I should have several boards by now, with about 5 pins each. They should vary, with personal interests and fun topics as well as business topics. I should take the categories of posts on my site (for instance) and break them up into separate boards. Right now I have one board on my site with 26 pins. I can easily comply with these suggestions from one of Kyle's training. I'll do that, plus add a board or two with quotes I like or cute kittens or whatever other random stuff that might have broad appeal and lend a personal touch.

2. Pins can be a lot better at advertising and drawing people to my site, if they're "rich pins." "Developers" can easily follow the directions to make this happen. People with my level of experience apparently enjoy much greater success with social media if they use an SEO plug-in called "Yoast." I switched to Yoast,, and it is a significant paradigm shift within my dashboard. Not bad, just different. Later today I will try to follow Pinterest's directions to finally get "rich pins."

3. In reflecting back over yesterday's progress, I realize I should mention that "confirming" my site within my pinterest profile and switching from a personal account to a professional one were moves recommended by WA members. These two actions improved my pinterest experience immensely.

If someone were trying to polish their pinterest without making major changes, I would suggest 1&3, with rich pins being a goal for a later date. Yoast is stretching me a bit. I regret that I could find no step by step "rich pins for dummies" posts anywhere that would explain to someone with my level of expertise how to get rich pins with the "All-In-One SEO" plugin we WA neophytes are comfortable with.

OK, I'll update after I've managed to follow through with the rich pins process.

All the best,

Elizabeth

Well fudge this just gave me a headache, lol. Was going to try to figure it out as well along with hashtags, oh the stress of it all.

When I was going through the certification training I went through a stage where I would stop making progress for weeks at a time. This was due to trying to really master one aspect of blogging or another before moving one.

This turned out to be unwise. I resolved NOT to get distracted any more, but rather to trudge on with the training, even if I thought I had gotten a "C" in a particular lesson. In many cases a subsequent lesson resolved my concerns much more efficiently than I could on my own.

In this manner I was able to get through the training at a reasonable pace, and I believe I learned more in that space of time, and with considerably less stress, than I would have if I had continued to go off on my own.

I just finished level five, and now I'm going back to tackle what I see as my weakest areas.

I suggest that you stay the course through the Certification training, then choose a richer, more personalized course of study after you're done.

Take it for What it's Worth,

Elizabeth

I'm going through the Cert Training and working on things as I go through it like Kyle says during training. I was looking for other avenues to follow to offer products I'm promoting including Pinterest. I'll keep plugging away at all of it until I'm successful.

Have you tried following others within a category similar to your niche? Hopefully, they will follow you back and that will put your pins in front of more people. It's like everything else, you just have to keep doing it and wait - it's a slow process.

Blessings,
Debby

I have Debbie.

My concern right now is that my pins aren't nearly as jazzy as my competitions'.

I'm in a niche crowded with very smart, tech-savvy people. They are running rings around me right now, but I am determined to catch up.

Thank you for your kindness,

Elizabeth

I have all confidence that you are determined enough to do just that Elizabeth!

Have a great weekend.

Blessings,
Debby

Thanks!

You too. I appreciate your reaching out.
