Which Grocery Store Are You?

Finding Your Focus

I was thinking about my WA blogs for my personal business (academic and business editing/writing; fitness) and I was also thinking about my WA Affiliate Program site that I just started. I have always loved helping my students to find a focus for their research papers, and so I wrote a blog post about finding your focus (niche) in your business.

Here's where the grocery store comes in. :-)

Every "make money online" website needs to have something special, some kind of specific problem that they will solve for a customer. There are so many of us promoting WA that if we do not do something unique, we could get lost in the shuffle.

When starting my own site (it's new) I was thinking about myself as a consumer: why do I buy - - anything? Well, I buy things because I perceive that what I buy is going to solve a very specific problem for me.

If I am having a few friends over, I will want to buy specific items that I know they will like: good red wine, expensive cheese, maybe some sushi. Where do I go for these items? For me, I'd go to the local Publix. They always have the best, upper-end selection.

If I am doing my family grocery shopping and want to save money, I will go to Kroger so I can get the 10 for $10, gas points, and deals. No brainer here.

In each of the instances above, I have a specific problem that must be solved, and I know exactly where to go. Believe me, those two grocery stores KNOW their audience and cater to those two specific problems.

Blog, What Problem Can You Solve for the Audience?

I don't think it is enough to simply point your audience toward Wealthy Affiliate. And we have of course learned that through our training here. But, if you are just starting, the tendency to simply write about WA and insert a link and banner is common.

So, what problem will you solve for others? Yes, they want to make money. Yes, they are trying to make money online.

So I'd start with a list of 3-5 ways that you personally can help others make money. What is your strength? Whatever you know, write about that and make it relate to WA.

But you might be wondering how to parlay what you know into an article about WA. Well, let's say you have been an electrician for a long time. You make decent money but you want to work from home (thus Wealthy Affiliate).

What successes did you have in your job? Why? Were you good at customer retention? Were you a people person? Did you have a talent at getting new business? Well, how did you accomplish those things?

The core values and reasons anyone succeeds in anything are the same for any business: perseverance, commitment, quality, etc.

So, take what you did well and teach your audience how to have that kind of quality within the scope of Internet Marketing.

I once ran 20 miles. It took time and practice: I jogged a certain amount every day, using a wall calendar to track my time. I jogged in rain or shine, Winter or Summer. I am proud of the fact that I accomplished that, and so how can I share this with an Internet Audience?

I might write a blog about my experience, and how I never would have expected myself to get to 20 miles in a few days. No Way! Of course Not - - that would be insane.

So how can we expect to be an overnight success in Internet Marketing? We can't. It takes time and perseverance.

Okay, those are my thoughts today. I know I rambled a bit but I just wanted to share.

What is your grocery store?

Thanks for a great post Elizabeth. This is good solid advice to anyone who wants to be successful:)

I worked my way up to a max of 6 miles Elizabeth. You can do most anything with practice!

This is far from a "ramble", Elizabeth! This is great advice with practicals.

Every now and then, I incorporate what I've done in the past that relates to my niche. So instead of me just saying "do this", I'm sharing some of my expertise along with success stories. You don't come across as being too preachy, it needs to be shared in an organic way.

Thanks! I am just in the beginning stages and trying to figure it all out as well!
