7 Steps To Separate Your Personal Life From Your Business Life

This is how I sperate my home life from mybusiness life.
I don't like working from home in my undies and this is why! It scares me!
I find it really hard working from home, chances are you already know that too. I am an artist too and sometimes I want to work on my art instead of my business. Well I'm a tellin ya the Art is not paying the bills. There are other distractions also like doing the laundry, chasing the kids, playing with the dog, getting lunch, not to mention all of the phone calls from friends and family that know you are home and want to go do something.
One of the hardest parts of running a home business is separating your work from your family and social life.
Here are 7 ways I keep My home life running smoothly while keeping my business on track and I would like to share them with you.
1. Create a work schedule and stick with it (think discipline here)
While it may be tempting to answer personal calls during the day (which I do if it's my wife.) or take business calls after your appointed time I believe is a mistake for the following reasons.
a. Family and Friends will take for granted that you will be available.
b. Family comes first so unless it is an emergency move it to after hours
I know it's hard but stay true to yourself and stay with the business hours and goals you have set and resist the urge. But thne again you are the boss. Family and friends will respect your work time if you tell them.
2. Discipline yep! the dreaded D word
You have to have a tremendous amount of discipline to consider working from home. I get it though. I do have an office but it is only 15 minutes from my home. If you have an hour or longer commute, God bless you and work from your home as soon as possible.
3. Set your own hours.
Just because you have to set up your own work schedule, doesn't mean you have to keep the same hours as everyone else. This is one of the best benefits of working for yourself is having the privaledge is to set your own hours to fit your most productive times (It's a wonderful thing). Whether you're an early bird or a night owl you can pick the time to get your work done. Just remember the dreaded D word.
4. A Dedicated Phone and or Phone number for your business.
You can utililize voice mail or answering service to answer your incoming calls. This gives your business a more professional appearance to your customers.
5. Seperate your home office
If at all possible seperate your home office from the rest of your house Please contact your tax consultant on the rules and regulations for your home office.
6. Dress and Act professionally while you are working.
Not in your Undies! I will tell you why but you can do what you please since you are the boss of your world.
a. Dressing in your undies allows for laziness (my opinion)/ not professionalism. Seriously why do you put your undies on? To Go To Bed. Unless you are Jeff Bezos and are worh 129 Billion ( yep a B) be professional.
b. If you do not have a dedicated phone or number answer it in a professional manner.
7. Spend your money investing in the tools you need to build your business
. There ain't nothin for free if you want to succeed. You can spend your money wisely though and avoid excess expenses.
This is how I strive (not perfect) to conduct my business. If you create a work schedule, discipline yourself, set your own hours, dedicate a phone or a number, seperate your workspace, dress and act professionally and invest in tools that will propel your business forward I think you have a better than average chance to succeed in your chosen endeavor.

Great advise to put personal and business management into proper perspective. Of course that dreaded "D" is necessary.
