Been A While

It's been a while since I last wrote a blog post on Wealthy Affiliate, so I am using this as a test to see if I am even doing it correctly. Seriously, it's been over two years.

I had a nice internet marketing site going, but since the recent updates from Google, it seems that some of the techniques I spoke about might not be the best practices now days... And that is where the confusion comes into play.

Techniques that I would proudly stand behind a year ago, just simply don't seem to matter anymore. Is it me? Is it changing times? Did I ever know what I was talking about in the first place???

After much thought, I can say with a great deal of confidence that yes, I have spent enough time studying up on internet marketing to know that I have a leg up on 99% of the population! (That is anyone who isn't a part of WA)

For everyone's sake: (not just you) Please don't STUFF keywords. Just write as naturally as you can for all the human readers, it will pay off in the end.

Search engines aren't dumb, and they get smarter every day. They make use of something called Latent Semantic Indexing, or (LSI).

I'm sure you've been told to use your keyword in the title of your post, within the first sentence of your post, and something like under 3% within the body of the rest of your post. Oh yeah, not to mention you need to use your keyword in the last sentence as well.

That's all great, but I am here to tell you that if you focus on those rules only, bad things are going to happen. Search engines, want and need new things to keep them up and running.

Absolutely true!

That really makes me wonder though.... are platforms like Fiverr, going to go down the tubes??? I have used them numerous times, but I can't honestly say I have seen great results. In fact I can't say I have seen good results at all.

(This had to do with building backlinks from social media sites and such FYI)

Honestly, I have had people on Fiverr make me some pretty cool videos that where way better than anything I could do for myself. So don't discount them.

If there is some magic formula for the amount of backlinks you need to get per month, on top of what Page Rank you need to get back links from, it is lost on me.

Truth be told, it all seems pretty complicated and a bit shady in my opinion. If anyone else is reading this, please take 90% of the time you use to write content, and focus on how you can help your readers.

In the end it will pay off. It takes time to build a business, and I am sure everyone out here wants to build a business they can be proud of.

Well their services are going to become less useful especially for tasks that involve "gaming" the system (which will actually only hurt the people that use it. Same with low quality writing which is prominent in freelancing sites. You can still find good help out there within the outsourcing world, however if you are not careful it will definitely have its negative impacts.

There has been one static with all of Google's updates, they are looking for the highest quality content. This has gone unchanged and sites that focused on this have only been improving in terms of rankings. We have been teaching that for some time here.

Don't focus on backlinks, don't focus on keyword density, focus rather on the visitor, a captivating headline, interested and shareworth content, and create a dialogue within all of your content. This will lead to long term rankings and it sounds like you have a really good handle of this.

Thanks Kyle, I couldn't agree with you more. While backlinks and on-page SEO still play a part, it is much more freeing to focus on giving the reader quality content instead of spending all your time trying to game the system so to speak. That might have worked years ago, but it doesn't work so much now days. And gaming the system is bad for everyone involved.

Absolutely, for content creators and those that like to create stuff for their visitors (and help people), life has just gotten a lot easer. For gamers, Google is going to continue making life more and more difficult.
