How the hell do you progress when the world is burning down around you?
Sorry for the blatant title, and this fairly short blog post, but I need to get it out somehow or I'll never get to sleep, let alone get anything done tomorrow.
See, sometime in the middle of July 2021, White Rock Lake/Monte Creek experienced a flash fire breakout, a small one, and it was managed poorly from the outset, then it launched itself into a major beast of a fire. That was ages ago in our real timeline.
There was a closer outbreak just north of us bordering Sicamous, and one on the east side of Mabel Lake, so smoke was an issue in this area.
Now a few years ago we had issues with smoke from huge but remote fires that weren't threatening us here in my neck of the woods. That was a bad year, and we actually packed up and took a vay-cay to get away from it all.
But back then, nothing was threatening us. This year we're surrounded by inferno, and it is only by God's own grace that the roads are still mostly open.
So since the beginning of August, we've been on evacuation alert, then it was rescinded, then reinstated, and rescinded, and now its back with a vengeance. Winds this weekend made things so much worse. I just measured on the maps, and the front face of the most frightening fire for us is literally only 30km away from here as the crow flies. We're getting ash and soot and char raining down on us constantly at this point. It's time to pack a go-bag just in case, round up all the critical paperwork and all that kind of stuff.

For the moment, its time to go clean out the vehicles so we can preemptively pack things that we can't afford to forget, like all our official documentation etc. Then I suppose its time to get back to work on all the things that don't stop when we're stressed and life gets in the way hey?
It's gonna get hot in here before it cools off and the pressure eases.

I feel you have released the frustration by writing this message. Many times we just need someone to hear us out and understand. The answer is in your message when you said "I suppose its time to get back to work on all the things that don't stop when we're stressed and life gets in the way hey?", but you are doubting yourself by ending it with a question. You are in control of your destiny. Stay focus on your plan and everything will work itself out. Focus on making the best decision for you. You are life not you living in life. You got this!
I live in Colorado, luckily usually far enough from where any wildfires occur, but nevertheless I've had to think about what to take and what to leave. It's agonizing indeed. Hang in there, and I hope it all works out as best as possible!
