I think I'm a designer at heart. I can work on the look and feel of a site for hours and totally lose track of time. It's a challenge for me to leave the site at "good enough" and to focus on creating content.
However that doesn't mean I'll stop obsessing about design. I think it's important. In my opinion one of the more important parts of web site design is color. The color scheme can really help to deliver the atmosphere that you're looking for. Here are a couple of tools that I use to help me with my color decisions.
First is 100 Brilliant Color Combinations at https://designschool.canva.com/blog/100-color-comb... I like this site because it offers so many appealing color combinations.

My favorite tool is Adobe's Color CC tool (formerly Kuler color wheel) at https://color.adobe.com You have endless color combinations here. If you're an Adobe Illustrator user you can save the color scheme to a color palette in Illustrator. It's complicated, but you can do it.
A really cool feature for Color CC is creating a color scheme from an uploaded picture. I think this is where all of the 100 combinations above come from. Take any photo that has the feel or atmosphere that you looking for and the color tool will find its color mood.
Once you've chosen a color scheme save all of the color hex codes and use them in your WordPress theme settings. If you need a lighter or darker shade of one of your colors, Color CC has a tool for that also.
I hope you find these useful. Do you have color tools that you use?
