Ahhhhh! My website isn't getting any traffic, and my bounce rate is over 84! I've submitted a sitemap, I've done the fetch, I'm on google+, and Facebook. I have gotten great feedback from all the wonderful people here at WA about my content. So what gives? What am I doing wrong? I would greatly appreciate any and all advice. My site is goodoledogs.com :-(

Ok so I have added the code to block the referral spam traffic and it did absolutely nothing my bounce rate is over 93% now ahhhhh! What the heck! I am so so so ready to throw in the towel !

This is a common occurrence and doesn't necessarily mean you are doing anything wrong. Remember, you only have 3 to 6 seconds to capture the interest of your website visitor. No matter how good your content may be, if you don't capture their attention, all will be lost.

I would suggest you do a simple test... Take your top two posts or pages, rewrite your heading, and/or change picture, for three to four weeks. Now recheck bounce rate to see if it is higher or lower, or same. There should be a change, even if only slightly. This might point you into the right direction. Hey, good question. I hope this helps.

If you notice the only difference between two almost identical websites are, one is very successful and the other is not. Why? Every webmaster is constantly making little tweaks and little changes to their websites then look at their stats to see if this change made any difference in their success, or page per view, or bounce rate, etc. The successful versus the not-so-successful should be an indication of what is working versus what is not working.

Ok I did it! Site seems to be working ok I would appreciate it if anyone could take a look just to make sure ;-) Thanks!! I hope this works!

I will admit it was a tad slow for me at first, but after the first 24 hours, all of it cleared up. I also had to set up filters in Google Analytics, but at least I'm not getting garbage traffic :] Hope it works out for you!

Have you checked your Analytics and Webmasters?

You will see at a glance if you are publishing enough content coz that really is the key.

Had a looksee at your site and to me there is not nearly enough regular content.

Hi Robert and thanks for taking the time to look, I'm working on it.

No probs but going by past experience an article every other day is the ideal.

If this is a problem for you then I suggest looking at fiverr and find someone who will do you a good deal.

Make sure you tell them what your site is all about - be very specific.
Hope this helps you some more.
Robert

Thanks again!

There are always free article sites and PLR ones as well.

Hello Again
Thought I would give you the link to one of my WA blogs about Bounce Rates. Have a wee read.
Robert

Thanks so much I'll take a look!

Thanks for all the help I have received!!!! You are all wonderful!

I initially thought the htaccess would be hard, but I actually had no problems :]

And as always, you are most welcome!

Has anyone used a plug in for this purpose rather than messing with htaccess?

This completely stopped it ALL for me.

Thanks For all your help looks like I have a lot to fix :-( and I'm finding it scary and frustrating as hell, but here I go!

This article might make things a bit easier.....

Don't let a bunch of spambots fool you, dawg.

Are you monitoring your traffic on Google analytics? My bounce rate was high too... I found a lot of referral spam traffic coming in. I've since blocked all of it and my bounce rate is under 60% now. Down considerably in days!

Precisely! Brooke, you Rock! :-)

Thanks, buddy!

Where exactly in Google Analytics would I find that kind of information? I checked security on webmaster tools and they said no spam. Is that what your talking about?

I also haven't had any traffic in days

Referral spam can be found in audience > overview

Check out this article and set up a valid hostname filter:
