Mentoring means finding a guru that is willing to pass on his knowledge to you in your industry and be willing to mentor someone else down the road.
Life is give and take. You have to be willing to give before you can expect to get something in return.
I know someone in the community where I live that considers me a friend but I don't consider her a friend. Sad part she doesn't realize why. She so into my business and what I'm doing because she has very low self esteem, but considers herself evolved because she's had therapy.
In our first encounter, I did about 4 hours of work with her and she only paid me for 1. then every time she needed help she expected me to come running. Then when I need a sounding board she doesn't want to hear the negativity. Then complains when I don't ask her questions about what's going on with her.
Friendships have to nurtured on both sides if you want to be considered a friend to someone!
