What Was Your Biggest Challenge When Starting in Your Niche?

Thanks again to those who participated in this blog series so far. Today I’d like to ask the next important question.

What was the biggest challenge you faced after picking your niche?

  • Was it confidence?
  • Creating your first content?
  • Finding time to stay consistent?
  • Something else entirely?

For me, one of the biggest early challenges was that I was new to golf, only about 5 months into playing, when I decided to dive into the golf balls niche. That meant a steep learning curve in affiliate marketing and understanding the game and the products at a deeper level.

Your challenges—big or small—can really help others who are just starting or wondering what to expect down the road. Don’t hesitate to share, even if it’s just a short comment.

My journey with my niche was slightly different. I write how-to books. No specific topic. If I learned how to change a tyre it would become a book. If I learned how varnish a table- it became a book.

During the credit crunch of 2008, I was writing books about online business and investment steps to survive what was happening in the economy.

One day a guy stopped me in the street, with a book in his hand and asked me to coach him. I remembered Richard Bransons advice - say yes, and learn how to do it later. That was the start of my business and wealth strategy business.

I've had to learn everything from creating an outcome, ensuring it would work, designing courses and delivering content.

Once I had my initial clients the next step was how to retain them once the course was finished.

That developed into a tiered membership supported with joint ventures. It just keeps growing.

So, really, all the way through with my business the challenge has been - what do I do next?

I like how you seized the opportunity despite having no experience with the whole process. You are right, often we have to learn along the way. It comes down to starting and optimizing the process as we go.

Are you still in the same niche? Would you do something differently if you did it again?

Yes, still in the same niche.

If there was one thing I would do differently, it would be to start growing my email list sooner. I didn't understand the power of it at the beginning.

But I think ideas and opportunities come when you are ready to receive them. You have to take your time, learn your craft, be persistent and enjoy the journey.
