Quick TIp: Use PIXLR Editor To Crop Images

Need an image that's an exact pixel size to fit your blog? Or want to crop out a particular part of the image to use? Although you can crop images in the WP media editor, there's a lot of guess work involved to get an exact pixel size. Instead, I upload an image from my computer (or from a URL) directly into https://pixlr.com/editor/.

Go to the Constraint box in the header above the image and change the default 'No restriction' to 'Output size' on the drop down menu of options.

Insert the width and height pixel size you need.

Click on the image and drag your mouse to draw a box over the part of the image you want. When you let go your mouse button, a grid box appears. This box can be moved so you get the perfect position for your crop.

Click the 'Enter' or return key on yoru keyboard and the cropped image is displayed. You can then go to File > Save in the top header bar (of PXLR, not your browser), and save the crop which is the exact size you need. Save formats are JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIFF or PXD.

I use this free on-line editor a lot. Interested to hear about any other - or better - free editors that anyone uses. Thanks!

Hi Sarah, I use 'MS Paint', right on your computer if you use Windows..You can enter the exact pixels under the 'Resize'. Check it out. Rudi

Thanks - I did try MS Paint initiallyi but was only able to resize by % eg reduce by 30%. I will take another look. Cheers, Sarah B

Sarah, you can select % or pixels, check at your convenience. Rudi

I used to use pixlr a lot but now I use picmonkey they have a free to use one but I upgraded to the Royale membership because it allows you to do some extra things and it's relatively low cost for the yearly upgrade as well.

Good info, good tip
Thanks

Thanks Jack. I forgot about picmonkey - I remember using that to put a polaroid frame around some recipe images. Thanks for reminding me. Cheers, Sarah B
