Consider disabling Photon if you use Jetpack

I love Jetpack, but have recently disabled the Photon facility. Although it comes highly recommended and ticked out of the box (to reduce load on your own server) I've read that it is not good for SEO. Photon uploads all your images to the WordRPess server and delivers them from there - so as far as SEO is concerned, these images may not show up as being on your website.

Although not everyone agrees, it's worth trying with and without Photon enabled if you use jetpack to see if this affects your site visits - one person here reports visits dropped by almost 50% when photon was 'on' https://wordpress.org/support/topic/does-jetpacks-.... Interested to hear other thoughts on whether or not this is true!

You shouldn't have been able to install jetpack here at WA.

From Carson:
"There are 1000's of plugins out there that are great, and many that are really harmful to your website. If you attempt to install a plugin that is not allowed it won't work and we'll disable it for you.

Keeping a list of "blacklisted" plugins would be a tough job and the list would be really long. Instead, all Premium members at WA get protected against plugins like this automatically. We'll keep your site free of things that can hurt your rankings, and harm your hard work!"

Hi Bob, Jetpack is definitely on the list of plugins offered here or I wouldn't have been able to download it. It is compatible with the latest wordpress install which isn't surprising as it's developed by the same people. I had inital problems when I activated the Brute Force protection in that it did lock me out of my site (my fault - forgot my password! and I no longer use that function) but I find it immensely helpful in many ways, not least because it has extra widgets which cuts down the total number of plugins I need, and I like the instantly available stats. It doesn't slow down my site (according to P3 plugin check it takes less load time than All In One SEO) and if it weren't available here I think I would move to another platform as, coming from Wordpress.com originally, it's what I cut my teeth on. I guess we all have our likes and dislikes but to ban it would seem a bit extreme.

Jetpack is certainly on the list of plugins offered through the wordpress.org site. As far as it being disallowed here at WA, you'd need to discuss that with Kyle or carson.
