Page to Post

I have seen quite a few questions about converting pages to posts and visa versa. I have done it a couple of times and its not difficult. Its the same process as capturing html code for a WA banner or an affiliate product.

In site manager, choose the page that will become a post.

Click on "Text"

Copy the entire page of text..

Go to Post - - add new.

Make sure the blank post is in "Text" mode.

Paste the text.

That's it. Sometimes the images are a bit off so placement needs to be tweaked. The process is the same to convert post to page.

After your content is pasted where you want it, you can go back to the original page or post and trash. Make sure its pasted where you want it before you select trash.

If I am eliminating a page that is already in my menu, I have found that I need to go to appeance - menus. I then go to the saved menu and remove that particular page and save the changed menu.

Its easy. You will still have plenty of time to keep on fishin'!

Hi James, a very useful tip. Irv.

Thanks Jim, I was thinking about this too. Goson

I have used the pType Converter plugin to do this. That way I don't have to worry about duplicate content or setting up redirects! Once the conversion is done I remove the plugin!

After these steps are implemented, should also add a 301 redirect from the page/post url to the new page/post url. There is a plugin for applying redirects. Google is said to favour websites that keep page / post changes updated with 301 redirects. I also Google Fetch and Bing Webmaster 'add url' in every url change too.

Really helpful, many thanks, Sue :)

Jim,
I was just thinking about this as a good way to refurbish old work. Thanks for sharing.

Just curious Drjec, would this be considered duplicate information by the search engines? I know Google frowns quite heavily on dup info. Not sure if I'm following the intent correctly. :-)

He mentions in the instructions to delete the obsolete page or post. Then there is no duplication.

Okay. Is this done because someone inadvertently created a page/post and really wanted the other?

Yes that's how I understand it too. Sometimes a post is worth being moved to a page when the information is more permanent. Posts are like news of the day and may be obsolete information over time, but have to remain for SEO purposes. Pages are more likely information that is always current. eg Privacy, location/contact.

This is interesting to me as it's the first time I've ever heard of it. I literally was creating a post yesterday and sat a touch dumbfounded as to if what I was creating was really a post or a page. Which actually leads to my next question. In the build-out phase of Bootcamp, it would seem to me to take a really, really long time to build out potentially 30 pages of info before moving on. Especially if you're building your pages correctly. Posts and pages, created with good SEO practices in mind really take time. I'm finding that my pages are crfeating themselves as I build the previous one out. So what I thought I would be creating pages for might actually be posts instead. Whew! Anyway, I'll have to keep building out with the knowledge if I need to flop one to the other, I can without penalty so long as I delete the previous. Sound right? Also, as you mentioned, a re-direct is necessary correct? It would seem you would be wise to know which you're creating first so as not to run into 'page not found' errors down the line.

Great Stuff! Thanks for sharing!

Press On!

Wow, thank you for the info

You can also do this with WP. Just click on the page you want to edit on your site, (you have to be logged in,) and it will say "edit page," click that link, then copy all the text/html in the form. Of course images won't transfer you'll have to reupload those.
