I was standing at my register at work. Bad pop music is playing in the background. Cashiering is a tough gig, a lot tougher than most would care to admit. I deliver the usual line verbatim, "How's it going?" some of the customers don't answer, but usually they will reply with a sufficient "Good" or "I'm doing okay, thanks."

"How's it going?"

"I'm doing well, how are you doing today?"

Sure the job it isn't back breaking work, and on paper, it doesn't even look so bad. Just badg items and hand them to the customers while effectively controlling your money.

"I'm doing well thank you."

Five minutes ago, I was told I would not be receiving a transfer to the department I have been waiting to be moved to for three months. Five minutes before that I was walking into my managers office with under the impression they were about to tell me that they were finally going to move me after three months of empty promises. All the extra effort was, I thought, finally going to pay off for me. A slight set back it may seem to you. An unimaginable devastation to me. I felt pins and needles all stabbing my heart when I said that. I suffer from certain mental hindrance that I don't care to go into too much detail about, but I tend to feel life very profoundly. I only call it a hinderance, because through the inevitable lows of life, what would only be a minor or unserious complication to some, is like a barrage of devastating blows to my being. I was crumbling inside.

I kept thinking about if anyone knew the inner turmoil that I was in, mentally. If they did would they even care?

All in all, you're just another brick in the wall.

Sure I might be a lowly nineteen year old cashier at a sporting goods store. I get paid 8.50 an hour Yet, I do twice the work of most my co workers. I offer twice the efficiency than that of my coworkers. I offer twice the initiative than that of my co workers. I'm always trying to improve, trying to learn, working FOR the company, not working AT it, a simple principle most of the associates have overlooked. The managers have continually failed not just me, but the other employees as well.

All in all, you're just another brick in the wall.

When I got home I felt like a husk of a human. And i'm only nineteen years old. Is this what life really has to offer me from here on out? Utilized and discarded at will by an external force? The classic line from Death of a Salesman comes to mind, "You can't eat the orange, and throw the peel away - a man is not a piece of fruit." Willy says to Howard, abandoned by the employer he had served for decades.

It had been brewing in my mind lately, all of this entrepreneur business. The beauty of the free enterprise. The amazing slew of technological aids we have at our access, and how that technology is putting the means of production in the hands of the individual more than ever. Millions of people making money off their name, with their unique and personal content. This is the way the free enterprise was meant to be.

Capitalism for the new age. Better technologies, more readily available to the masses, this is the current trend and it gives no indication of halt. Better technologies means better opportunities once only available to the wealthy, the privileged, and those who had knowledge in the esoteric IT realm.

I knew the potential was there, but I also knew that I needed help making my first steps into the initially daunting business world. That's when I joined Wealthy Affiliate, and a day later, signed on for the premium experience, and in the words of Raekwon in the Wu Tang Clan's famous song C.R.E.A.M "I got with a sick tight clique and went all out!"
