Why Should We Purchase "Self" titled .coms.
Does anyone remember where it was that Kyle was talking about good reasons to have a domain with our names as the .com?

Just make sure your name doesn't equal YOUR NAME. As in, JOHNDOE.com. Unless you need it to.
Steve
I went back and read Certification Level 2 Lesson 1 and he doesn't reference your personal name as the domain name, he starts out with a basketball name and uses that. He just says you need to own the domain name you are using. It doesn't have to be a keyword but he's building on a name close to your niche.
If you use your personal name, it doesn't really tell the user what your site is about. JohnDoe.com doesn't tell you anything about your site, Whereas, PizzaToGo.com at least tells the reader it's a pizza site. You can own that domain and you own that real estate. You can certainly own a domain with your personal name if you want, but what would it get you? $13 in the hole.
One thing I did notice that I did WRONG, he says not to use dashes in your domain name, and I made the mistake of using it in BOTH of the domain names I own. Tsk

Yah Steve, I went back and watched that video twice and it must have all been in the preceding video that this one replaced.
You've got some great points to ponder. I wouldn't be buying a self titled domain for a boot camp site. I'd probably just use it as maybe a centralized anchor... maybe something to tie all my sites into giving folks a rounder, fuller idea as to who I am and what I do.
Like I've got enough time for another site, right...LOL!!!
Thanks my friend!
Randy
And I have a habit of going into all this detail on something that DID change before I got here! That happens to me all the time! LOL
Steve
Certification. Level 2 lesson 1. Thats where the video lesson talks about buying your name. Just watched it last week. Hopefully this helps. PS one of your comments below got it rt. Your own domain your own brand. Thats the lesson title.
Sweet... thank you so much Victoria. I'll go back and watch it again... somehow I missed that part... )-;
ok I went back and watched it again. when he is buying his basketball site on WA he then mentions that he buys his domain name each time one becomes available. ( as in .com, .org, .net...)He mentions brand and that they wont make more of our names :)))) so if it is available he states it as a positive but not a necessary or have to.... Branding. I knew it was there but it is quick about 30 to 50 seconds that he mentions it...
Wow, I watched it twice and I still missed it...LOL! Thank ya' Victoria... sure do appreciate your efforts.
A few minutes ago I just started one on a siterubix "Test" site. Think I'll take 'er for a spin before I commit!
Again, thanks so much for all your help!
Lol! Have fun! Ya know referring to Steves comment below, there is a lot we can do with our name domains. If any traffic gearing it to email lists of sorts... hmmm. Opened a whole new world of possibilities. Hehee see you did that with this one blog and comments Randy,
:)))
Too funny my friend! Last night after hittin' the sheets my mind was just racing with possibilities! Think I'm catchin' a little of your enthusiasm...LOL!!!
Sure appreciate it!
Don't be doing too much spinning mind, don't want you getting to dizzy and falling over lol. So you are going for your domain then. If you leave the letter e out of your second name, you will get a good one lol. xxx
Lol, I couldn't resist as these sorts of things appeal to my wicked sense of humour. I can imagine lol, I bet Patty found it funny too and if she didn't laugh out loud she was probably laughing to herself inside. Just as well I don't live beside you with my sense of humour, I left you a pm with some nice domain names that I found for you lol. Have a good night/day. xxxx
Thank ya' Cheryl... I'll be taking a quick look here shortly and checkin' 'em out in the morning!
I'm definitely off the races on this one now that Victoria found that post. I just had a crazy itch to see exactly what Kyle said about it before going ahead and developing a namesake site. I won't be using it for boot camp.
I've kinda got another idea for it.... we'll see! Talk to ya' tomorrow!
Sound's interesting lol, look forward to see what you are going to do with it lol.
I will talk to you in the morning, which will be later on today for me lol.
Night night. xxxx
Aww share, I can only guess with your said sense of humor what the domain names could be. Lol, thanks for making me laugh...good thing I shortened my reply. Lol!
I don't remember as it was in lessons in phase 2 may be. I had a free site and decided to get one paid dot com and that gave the first google presence and ad sense approval. Having at least one is important and check in phase two lessons probably you may find as it was in early lessons.
I remember hearing that somewhere as well. Probably here. I bought my name/domain name many years ago and still have it. I finally decided to use it to promote my VA business but it's not quite set up yet. I think it could be good to have from a branding point of view. Alanna
Absolutely Alanna. I've been thinking of using it more like a one page kinda setup that is easy to build initially and can be added on to as I get ideas.
From a branding point of view, you could create a landing page that describes your business with links and such. This will connect you with your business thus creating your brand.
Yah kiddo.... that's kinda what I was thinking in terms of! I think I'll probably be going in that direction with it!
Way too many ideas spinning in the noggin'... LOL! The 'ol brain is usually noddin' off uncontrollably right about now. Go figure, ey?
Thank ya' Alanna

I do remember this training and Kyle said that you should use your name and own that domain so that no one else with a similar name gets it which could cause confusion in your other domains if someone looks you up. I do believe it was Lesson 2 Part 1 or 2. I just did this last week. Even if you do nothing with JoneDoe.com, you should own it. If you can't get that then try add your middle initial or middle name, then make sure your other domains list your name that way. At least that was my understanding of what Kyle was saying.
Thank you so much Anita. That was exactly the terminology from Kyle that I've been looking for. I really appreciate ya' confirming that for me. I'm heading over to Siterubix in a few to get the basic site worked out before I purchase the domain.
Can not thank you enough!!!
Randy
You're quite welcome! I'm so glad I could help!
