Hiya Folks,

Just wondered what everyone's opinion is on Udemy.com vs. Lynda.com? I've heard and read all kinds of stuff but thought I'd ask the community!

Thanks all,

Randy

I want to devote whole time learning what WA is offering to earn online.

Hiya Taniela, I totally understand ya'! I'd highly recommend that for you, also! Enjoy your time here at WA,

Best wishes!!

Thanks

I've signed up for over 40 Udemy online courses, from Art - Dog training - Wordpress -- Fasting - Photography and more. I usually enjoy and learn something from each one. Plus I only sign up when they cost aro $10. - Shirley

That's exactly what I'm thinking too Shirley. I'll just put the ones in my cart that I want and watch for 'em to go into 'heavy discount' mode.

I don't really have much time for too many of them but thought I'd get a little more knowledge here and there.

Hoping you're doing well my friend... so good hearing from ya'!!!

Hi Randy,
I personally haven’t tried Lynda but I can tell you that I am totally pleased with my results on Udemy.
Jerome

Ey there Jerome, this is good to know. I'll have a more informed opinion in 3 or 4 hours!

Thanks so much partner!!!

I have used both. They both offer quality teaching. I agree with Marion (@MarionBlack) about negative comments are usually based on individual courses and not about Udemy itself. Sometimes, bad reviews happen because Udemy has this stupid policy of letting people review in the beginning of the course, and people leave reviews without going through the entire course. Other than that, I have had some great training there.

I like Lynda.com too. However, unless it's changed recently, they force you into a monthly subscription, which I don't always have a need for training every month. Some months you end up paying without taking any modules. For this very reason, I don't use the site.

There are others as well:
EDX.org
SkillShare.com
KhanAcademy.org
Coursera.com

Best Regards,
Jim

Excellent info Jim... thank you so much. I'll definitely check out Udemy and I'll search through the others you mentioned a little bit later today.

I really appreciate your help!!!

I have not tried Lynda, but I have taken several courses on Udemy.

If you select the high scoring courses and buy them when there is a big discount, it can be great way to learn more about a specific topic. But it will not give you an overall understanding like here on WA. But I have personally learned quite a bit about specific topics that I wanted to go deeper into. And often they have discounts, where you can get a course for $10-$15, and then it can definitely be worth it in my opinion.

All the best,
Mikael

Outstanding Mikael, more of just what I need to hear. $15 for a decent course would be well worth it for me as long as I'm not duplicating what I can find here within the WA community!

Sure do thank ya'!!!

I love Lynda, I like the way of that teaching model. very informative and easy to understand.

I think you should try it out and see which one works better for you.

Stefan

Thanks bud, that is just what I've been thinking this morning. No one seems to have any bad experience with either one... why not give 'em both a shot!

I teach on Udemy :)

Any negative comments you may read are usually regarding a particular course not Udemy in general. I have some good reviews on my first course with 4.36 average star rating out of 5.

Ahhh Marion, I appreciate ya' chiming in. It's really awesome to hear from someone that is actually involved to the point that you are. I may just have to try a few courses there... it's not like it's gonna break the bank or anything... (-;

Remember that there's a 30 day money back guarantee if a course you choose is really hopeless. PM me for my affiliate link :)

Thank ya' Marion, I'll definitely keep that in mind. I won't need it for today's course. Wow, I was impressed... just loaded with practical, current information.

I'll PM ya' right away for sure! Thank ya' again, Marion!!!

Hi Randy,

I don't anything about Lynda.com but some months ago I was looking at learning from Udemy but I was discouraged by quite a few negative reviews from previous students.

The negative comments were directed at the teachers. So basically I think it is just hoped you get a good tutor. That's what I read into it because the complaints were about the teaching practices. If it was one complaint I would take it with a grain of salt but there were many so I stayed clear.

I just saw Lynda website and if I were you I might want to try their free trial first. In fact, I might even give it a go.

Kinda what I was thinkin' Brad. I guess going the free route beats spending money and still being confused, eh? Thanks Brad, hope all is well in your part of the world, partner!

All good Randy here although we have had a hot summer. A couple of weeks ago got up to 47.3 C.

I stayed away from Udemy when I saw so many negatives. Seems to me they are just a marketing agency contracting work out to people who are after a quick buck to teach. That's my impression.

Wow Brad, I don't remember the last time it got that hot here... and it does get hot here! That's when ya' need to find some high altitude with a big 'ol lake to float in... LOL!

Yah, I saw some negative too, but when I did previews at both .coms on the same subject, the course at Udemy seemed a lot more detailed and complete than the one at Lynda.

Thank ya' for helping out... stay cool partner... think lakes, big lakes...LOL!!!

Thanks, mate I will try and chill out. It's only 33 C today but really bad humidity. Good luck with the course and you never know you might get a good tutor. Reading into it it was some of the tutors who were to blame. Maybe after the head honcho at Udemy saw all the remarks he may have p--ssed off the bad ones?

Just completed my first one at Udemy and I have to say that it was absolute quality and just loaded with info... definitely worth every cent.

I'll definitely be going back for more Brad... hopefully tomorrow. I imagine they've got some kinda quality control going on now.

Hopin' your weekend is good, Brad!!!

Randy

Great to hear Randy.

Maybe all those negative reviews got the ball rollin'

Hope it all goes well for ya'

Thankin' ya' Brad... sure do appreciate it!

Hi Randy, I haven't heard of Lynda before now. I took one course with Udemy it was okay but not extremely helpful. Perhaps choosing a different Udemy course would have been better.

Sorry I can't help with Lynda at this stage.

Well thanks Valerie. It sure seems like I've done a free course at Udemy and really enjoyed... just can't quite remember. I did find user and password for Udemy just a little while ago so I know I've at least investigated it a bit. I'll check with the Bear... he's mentioned 'em before I think!

Thank ya' Valerie... I always enjoy your thoughts on things!!!

Dunno what to make of it one has prices the other doesn't I don't know man seem sketch but maybe the experts in community would better than i

Yuppers, I'm definitely having a problem figuring out which one to go with... thankin' ya' for your input!!!
