What actually matters?

Hello, all

Hope you are all doing significantly better than I am.

I have a question for everyone; What defines a potential business as worth the time?

I've recently come across an issue where I have been trying to find partners in various business ventures, for all of which I have built a solid business plan. I even have small-time investors.

What would make someone (specifically family members) completely disregard my idea when I'm asking them to their face if they would like to join my company?

I don't know. But knowing that I am alone in my journey is incredibly demeaning, especially when the only reason I got into business was to help build income for me AND family members.

Am I wrong for putting faith into other people? Probably...

The last people I would go to would be family. There are many other sources out there.

Don't take it personally. People with familiarity will view you completely different from the average Joe that doesn't know you at all.

Look at it this way. If I were to come into a new job, I'd immediately assume other's that are already working there are an authority in their respective jobs. Now take that and change it to coming into your friend's or family's home. They know you in a different way.

They don't see you as person X with years of experience in job Y, they see you as Dad, husband, friend, etc. Their association of you is not based on a profession and that familiarity clouds their view when it comes to such things.

When you approach people in this manner it automatically comes across as suspect or risky. Take my experiences here at WA. I did serious research before joining and still my husband is skeptical and rolls his eyes when I talk about it.

Sadly most close friends and family won't "jump on the band wagon" until your venture is proven successful and then some of them just want to ride your coat tails for the easy money.

You're not wrong to put your faith into other people but, in all honesty, putting it into friends an family can be the wrong move and even strain those relationships as they start asking how are we doing or get the jitters and want to pull out, etc. That level of familiarity comes with assumptions of a different level of access to the information and a sense of control in making decisions, choosing the direction to move and so on.

Don't give up but really think about who you want to solicit to fund/join your business.

Sometimes family members can be the most skeptic. Maybe familiarity breed contempt is true. But when we do have a supportive family member - that is awesome!
