Keep Calm and Stay Healthy

Good day to all of my family here at WA.

After reading through the news for the past couple of days and watching the panic escalate over this Coronavirus, I wanted to add a little perspective and common sense into the mix. Every year we go through what the CDC calls a "flu epidemic". The common flu season begins around October/November and can last up until May. The estimated statistics for the 2019/2020 flu season are as follows; There will be an estimated 32 million to 45 million cases of flu in the U.S. Out of those cases 14 million to 21 million will require medical visits. 310 thousand to 560 thousand will need hospitalization and between 18 thousand and 46 thousand will, unfortunately end in death. This is just a common, regular flu season folks. Frightening, but it happens every year.

Now, so far, the Coronavirus or COVID-19 has infected 71 people in the U.S. and we have had one death. It is a "novel" strain of flu. One they had not predicted. It will likely get worse before it gets better but look at the numbers. We don't need to go into full on panic mode just yet. People are working their tails off, as we speak, to keep this contained and treated as quickly as possible and here is how we can help;

This virus is easily killed by standard antibacterial agents. Be vigilant with wiping down surfaces with bleach, Lysol or other disinfectants. Don't forget door knobs and light switches. If you work with other people, especially in schools, daycare facilities or other care facilities

Most important of all... WASH YOUR HANDS! Use hand sanitizer but don't let your hands dry out. This can cause the skin to crack and that won't help at all.

Stay away from people that are sick, coughing or sneezing. If you are sick, stay away from others. If you just can't avoid others, be conscientious and wear a mask or cover your mouth to prevent spreading your germs.

Be prepared if you think you will be confined for a time. Have in supplies and medicines so you won't have to go out, especially raw honey!

Keep your immune system happy. Get plenty of rest and take your vitamins. Eat well.

By using some common sense folks, we can help to keep this nasty bug contained. I hope the clever brains of the CDC and other organizations will come up with the necessary tests and treatments to stop this sucker in its tracks. Until they do, stay healthy, stay happy and be well.
