Don't Forget to Lend a Hand - Remember Our Elders
After reading a news article this morning, about a lovely young lady in Oregon, it made my heart happy. I have been very concerned about the older folks in my community with all this virus insanity going on. People are reacting the way people do... wiping out the shelves in the grocery stores and hoarding supplies. It's a natural reaction unfortunately.
Now this particular young lady had stopped by her local store to pick up a few items for herself when she was flagged down by an elderly couple sitting in their car. They were distraught and afraid to go into the store. They asked the young lady if she would mind buying their groceries for them, to which she happily said yes. The elderly woman rolled her window down, just enough, to pass a hand written grocery list and a $100 bill through the gap. The young woman managed to collect all of the elderly couples groceries and efficiently loaded them in their trunk and passed the change back through the window.
I know that a few of the larger grocery stores now have "pick up lanes", where you can call in a grocery list ahead of time and have all your items gathered up by an employee, after which it is bagged up and waiting for collection at your convenience. I've never used the service myself but I am starting to think that, right now, this is a pretty smart way to shop. Especially for the elderly. But what about those that no longer drive? The ones that can't get out? These are the folks that I most worry about. We need to make a special effort to lend a helping hand where we can. Just check on your neighbors folks. See if there is anything they need. With everyone pitching in and doing a little bit to help we will get through this just fine. It will also keep your mind off of things and cause less stress, which, in turn, keeps your immune system happy! A win, win!
Stay happy and healthy folks and have a great day.

Great point, Dolly. Those above 65 have a 20x higher risk of fatality. Show some love, care and concern.

In the UK they are already putting the old, vulnerable and those with underlying health problems in self-isolation for the next four months. The rest is supposed to catch the virus it seems, the "herd immunisation model."
Obviously the UK Government is working closely with their medical and scientific advisors. It makes sense, but wouldn't it be a good idea to let us all know what their plan is. As you said, panic buying by younger people in society doesn't make sense. the likelihood of fatalities amongst them is negligible. Communication is vital, good or bad.
Great post Dolly,
warmest regards,
Les
Thank you Les. I saw that the Queen and Prince Philip left for Windsor yesterday. Good move. I'm glad that the government is looking out for the vulnerable.
I do agree with you that "information is necessary". I think a lot of the panic would die down if people were more informed - at least I would hope so.
Stay healthy my friend!
