Why every marketer should befriend G+

Last Update: April 08, 2014

Google Plus is now 2 years old. Some of you probably befriended it when it was just a toddler, but it has yet to be everyone's social and/or marketing friend.

G+ might not be the popular offspring Google was hoping it to be, but it has nonetheless done it's proof. A recent survey research (60,000 people) shows that it has more friends visiting than LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram. In the US, it has as many friends as Twitter does.

In no way a rival to Facebook, 72% of people visit Facebook monthly / 22% of people visit G+ monthly, researchers insist every marketer should use Google Plus. Here are more reasons why:

The report shows that the top brands studied for the research have 90% as many friends for their BFF G+ as their Twitter buddies.

Actually, G+ is a great friend to these brands as it brings in more than YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram combined.

Also, the brands' friends engage more with the Google Plus brand posts than they do on Twitter.

Although it has recently been referred to as a loner by a New York Times article, most marketers suggest brands to make G+ one of their besties as it does affect search positions.

So go on, don't be shy! Introduce yourself and your business to the friendly Google Plus.

Lol, that seems to be the case for many! The more we play around with it, the more likely we are to find "the" way to make it work for us/our business. Happy discovering! ;)

Thanks for the read! Google+ can be a good tool. Tonight's WAbinar was about a useful way of using G+ for a local business. You can check out Magistudios profile for the video.

An after thought: the effectiveness of G+, and the facility to drill down into "ripples" really excites me, it is a kind of cross between Twitter and LinkedIn, just gotta figure the blighter out a bit better, but I WILL!

Now this headling caught my eye ;)

Great posting G ~ or should I say G+...
Seriously though, I have no clue what I'm doing on G+, though learning more about it is on the to-do.
To mine, I think it's already more important for entrepreneurs than the others, It may not have the quantity yet, though it has raised the bar a touch for quality imo...

Fantastic communities there as well...
(of course not as special as WAU).

Google does not have ownership after only 2.

I like G+, but I agree that it hasn't started to compete with FB and Twitter. As a result, I pay little attention to it. I want to be more effective with it, but it's hard when the masses are headed somewhere else. There are only so many social media platforms you can focus on with any effectiveness (and I'm not that effective with the others yet either...)

Thanks for your comment! You at least have a presence there, that's a start. The problem is, if everybody says nothing is going on on G+, than obviously people are not tempted to join. If we want it to work for our businesses, it's up to us to make it sooo interesting/fun they have no choice but to join! :)

I think adding posts from your website to Google+ helps move your website content up under Google search. But, I'm still learning how to do better posts. Good images with some good content is more popular.

Good point you bring to the table, that's one way G+ is not to be ignored. Practice makes perfect, we all are learning, keep posting away!

I am sticking with Twitter for right now. Too many people here have had their G+ accounts closed. Debbie

True, yet I still feel maybe that's because none of us know how to make the most of it! I'll at least give it a proper shot, I still have hope in you G+, don't let me down. ;)

I am wrestling on a daily basis with how to deploy G+, I have created a page, and a YouTube channel, and it is beginning to come together at least in my mind...
I feel as though I am pushing a boulder up a hill, with frequent rest stops. I use one note to track my learning points and this post helps too, so thanks for sharing!.

That's great! Like Kyle mentioned in his training, G+ is Google and since it has monopoly over searches one can expect great results from their social media platform.

Thanks! There's been a few questions on WA about the utility of G+. When I came upon this research, I thought it could be an eye opener for some who were still unsure about joining, especially for business.
