Teaching English To People

I guess my wife and I talked it out and we made plans for me to be a teacher of English. It will just be private lessons though. Nothing concrete yet. It was just a discussion. People in Mexico are poor and they have a desire to learn English. We will have to see how it works out.

The lessons will most likely be for 20 or less pesos. That is basically $2 in U.S. money. Yes, that is not much pay, but I am desperate and the people here can barely afford lessons as it is.

People in the United States get a lot more money for teaching per hour, but you have to take into consideration that they have a degree. I guess the advantage of having someone without one would be cheaper labor and cheaper lessons.

No, I am not advertising on here Kyle.

I was just pointing out a plan going on. I was considering building yet another website that focuses on this area. I am no professor of it though, but I have spoken English since I was born and I have a high school diploma. I also went to college for a bit to improve my math skills. I did take psychology 101 way back when, so I do know how the brain operates.

I have been training people for over 10 years now and have been good at it.

I will keep you updated on my progress if you wish. Let me know if you have suggestions for my upcoming website as well. Just look on the right hand side of my profile for it whenever it becomes available.

Good for you for making a plan and coming up with a way to take action.
I also teach English as a Foreign Language (when in Russia) and it's not only a really rewarding job, but also a huge service to the people you're teaching. I'm not sure if you can do anything about this because I understand that you're helping others by making lessons affordable, and I don't know what the pricing is like there, but I believe that you can charge a bit more... You deserve it, you know...

It is pretty bad down here. Some people have housing with dirt floors or sometimes they have a house with just literally one or two rooms. I am not saying all housing is like that. I have been in a few nice houses, but those are not common where I currently live.

Tehuantepec is a really poor area. I would have to say the better areas would be the actual cities (which tend to have crime). The closest I have to an area that has more potential is salina cruz, but then I would be wasting money on a bus ride every day. The key point is I have to lower my costs in order to gain more profit and deal with what is closer to me.

Go with whatever works for you! I'm impressed that you're willing to give it a shot and I wish you the best of luck! You will be doing a huge service to your people :)

By your people I presume you mean the human race in general as I am an American and not Mexican. My kids are part Mexican though.

Whoops! Didn't realize how that could sound different than the intentions I had when I wrote it; my bad. Actually, by your people I meant the people living in the city that you live in, your community, your friends, etc...

Understandable. By the way, I did manage to have one student for about one day. As of if he comes back, that remains to be determined. lol Patience is a virtue after all. Yes, I did get paid on that day. Not much though. I got enough money for food and water for one day only. Yea!

That's a great start! Keep it up :)

Hey Jakob. You will succeed as English teacher in Mexico. My best wishes. :)

Good deal Jakob, sounds like this will be a great opportunity to help people. This could be awesome!

You know what. That is a very good point. I really do need to be helping people outside the internet if you come to think of it. After all, helping people is my calling in life and I really have not been fulfilling it to my maximum potential.

The best of luck - when you get going there are quite a few of us who have taught English as a Foreign Language and will be able to give our thoughts as you develop it.
