Roadblocks

I am only in lesson 2, #4. I spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do next. Instructions were to start writing content and list keywords. Initially I was confused as to where to start writing content. Hmmm... I had already created content in the menu bar, but now where am I supposed to start writing? I don't have trouble creating content. I have trouble figuring out where to place it. Silly I know. Okay. I'm a newbie - so I ask myself - do I add content to the already existing content in the menu bar, or do I start writing where my website says, "no posts displayed"? So I wrote in the area that indicated "no posts displayed". Well...now it's a post and not an actual page. Ugg. Haven't gotten that far in class yet to know if this is the correct way or not. Guess I'll just leave it for now. The second roadblock was how do I link the post to the menu page? Hmmm... somebody posted something about that today - so I'll try to follow the instructions on that tomorrow and see what happens. The third roadblock I had was my keywords. Do I enter keywords for the content that was already written in the menu bar - which we created a few classes back, or do I just begin entering keywords for the content I am creating here on out. Well... my thoughts are since I'll be linking the content to the menu bar, I'll just add keywords to the content going forward. The other question I had was do I write one keyword per paragraph or do I write one keyword per page. I'm yet to understand this. Doesn't this depend on how much content is in a page?

Now having said all this... I'm working on time management. I work outside the house 50 hours a week, and get home exhausted. I need a clear head when I'm thinking about how to push through any obstacles with my new IM endeavor , so I took a week off of work starting on Monday - just so can finally get to class 5. Having to keep up with all the posts, reads and messages is very time consuming and hasn't allowed me enough time to get my website done.

Here is what I've decided to do. I will spend one hour each evening reading and responding to posts, and then will spend another hour in the classroom and my website. Weekends I'll catch up on watching additional video's and learning content.

I love WA. Every roadblock I go through is teaching me to be successful. I'm learning step by step, and without regret. I'm hopeful, and I know I can do it. Tomorrow is going to be a good day.

Good thoughts very methodical and progressive toward the objective. It seems you are going to be very successful. See you in Vegas!

I am doing the bootcamp and still on lesson 10. I am thinking about going back to lesson 8 again and reviewing. It takes time and patience, but it will be to our benefit in the long run. Tomorrow is going to be a fabulous day!!

I would imagine doing both the bootcamp and beginner classes at the same time would be a little overwhelming. Good for you! I plan to start bootcamp a little further down the road. I'm afraid of information overload. LOL!

Go for it.

Going all the way pal!

Good!

All the best moving forward :)

Thanks Jude. Jumping with both feet in. ;)

I think there is more than a couple of us with these issues. I go back and repeat lessons a lot, but eventually they sink in.

Hey ladybug. I think there are more than just a couple of us that have these issues. I'm just thankful for the wonderful friendships that I'm creating. I can't wait for the day that I'm knowledgeable enough to help someone else at. I try. I read questions all the time and try to search for answers so I could distribute the information. I believe that's what WA wants us to do. They know we will learn more this way.

Hiya Darlene, I had kinda the same sitch as you when I started and later had to go back and transform a bunch of pages into posts. I think what Kyle and Carson are desiring at this point is to have your 'Contact Me', 'Disclaimer/Private Policy and 'About Me' all pages and pretty much everything else be posts.

Once you go into 'Dashboard'>'Settings'>'Reading' and set your 'Front Page Displays' to 'Your latest posts' your posts should all display on your home page.

At that point you may have to go into your 'Edit Menus' and double check to make sure that your home page is a 'Custom Link' displaying your posts.

Keywords... Chris is right on the money! Once I finally got a grip on keywords, yah, I did go back and redo all of my pages and posts.

If I want additional posts in my menu I just make add categories to the menus and/or sidebars and put my posts under them. You probably haven't covered categories yet in Cert Training but you will and things will be a little more clear for ya'.

If ya' do put a bunch of pages in your menu it's no big thing... there are some great plugins that'll help ya' get them transferred back over later.

Hang in there my friend... I definitely remember how frustrating it was learning all of this! Any problems... always ask!!!

Oh my gosh you have no idea how your reply just made me feel. I feel so relieved. We haven't covered categories yet - so I'm happy to know that I may be over thinking stuff. You are amazing friend!!! Thank you so very much!

My pleasure Darlene. You are doing great... I am so looking forward to keeping tabs on your website. Right now it's very clean, easy to read... everything is directly to the point but yet not sterile! Your writing voice is easy and promotes continuity. You're off to a very nice start! Very nice website. And like I said, the pages in your menu can easily be moved over to your posts/blogroll with a plugin if and when you're ready!

Keep up the great work!!!

Thank you dear friend. That is such a nice compliment.

Generally, when you're instructed to create content, it doesn't matter whether you create a post or a page. Just create something. :)

You don't necessarily want to link posts to your menus, but if you don't get it sorted out feel free to ask for help. Most people have pages in the menu, although I've occasionally had posts linked.

Each lesson usually has you create new content.

As for keyword placement, we shoot for using the keyword in the page/post title and in the first paragraph.

You can use it elsewhere as well, but only in a natural way. You don't want to "keyword stuff" your pages/posts. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66358

Good luck and keep plugging away.

Thanks Chris! I'm pretty sure I saved one keyword phrase to page and one keyword phrase per title. I don't think I'm supposed to import them yet - rather just save them to a list which I'm doing. The information you stated really helps me know that the training is coming. Hahahaha. I'm just jumping too far ahead. Once again - thankyou! I'll check out your link.
