Just Starting Out!
I started out here at WA so confused and wanted to bail. As I watched the lessons I did not even understand what an affiliate was let alone an SEO or even a plug-in. So how and where do you begin if you are starting out with no knowledge of internet marketing? Here are the most basic core things you need to know when first starting out:
- Don't quit your job and think you will be rolling in money until at least a year. Unless you already have a good following and are known in the internet world it takes time to build up a reputation. It also takes time to build your website up and to understand the steps necessary to get ranked.
- Training-Watch the steps in Kyles' classrooms and make sure you ask questions. I skipped over the parts that I did not understand and found myself restarting several times as i tried to understand what the acronyms even meant.
- Personality-Find something you are passionate about and start there. It is too difficult to learn a new product and learn how to market that product in an unfamiliar way. I tried several niches but found I was spending more time learning the product than I was in producing any good content.
- Background-Use your personal experience. People want to buy from people they perceive as an expert. Think back over what you have done in the past and enjoy doing. It does not have to be work related. Do you like to camp, or play tennis, animals whatever the subject that makes you excited use that as your niche to start.
- Unique-Find something that can set you apart from the rest of the pack. I am a travel agent, if you look up travel agencies you will find thousands and thousands of them. So I need a market that makes me unique. For myself because I have spent most of my life involved in humanitarian projects I have a unique experience and insight into unique locations around the world. I also homeschool all of my children who travel with me to the locations that I am sent to help. So my niche is family travel and unusual travel. I can still book any other travel, but I am building myself up as an expert in a select market. Find what makes you different.
- Keep Learning-Spend a part of each day learning something new. Do not think you have ever accomplished it all and understand everything. There is always something new and the internet is constantly changing.
- Social Media-Tie into social media. Whether it is Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. Find the social media that works for you and tie in your website to your social media page.
Here at WA you find many on the same road that you are attempting. Most of us remember how difficult it was to start out, and are more than willing to help if asked. So do not be afraid to ask a question. Follow people so you can learn what they are doing and get notifications of new trainings and blogs. Most important, enjoy what you are doing. If you are not having fun stop and asses why. Life is short and most of us need to work but that does not mean we need to be miserable. Find what you enjoy if you are trying to sell via the internet and do not like what you are doing that is going to come through in your posts and reviews. Make some new friends here and let me know how you are doing.
