Is honesty the best policy?

Hey guy's, So I just wanted to have a chat about something.

I am very honest and up-front about my past and the struggles I have faced.

But I just can't help thinking that being too honest might take away from my trust.

It's all well and good showing everyone that I have overcome a massive addiction but there is always people out there that are ignorant about addiction and all they will see is the word drug addict.

They might not acknowledge the fact I have been clean for years, or the fact that I was a naive child when I was caught up in this addiction and didn't even understand the consequences.

I guess I am worried that nobody will trust me enough to follow my affiliate links or take my advice. Who wants to take business advice from an addict? I want you guys to be brutally honest and tell me if I should edit my about page and maybe erase the historical facts?

UPDATE: I have edited my about page to include less personal details, hoping I can gain more trust this way. Any advice and feedback is still welcome.

Thanks for all you support and feedback!

David.

If someone is too simple minded to hold your honesty against you, then that's their loss. You are being an example of how to pick yourself up and move onward and upward.

I run into similar problems with my website, prosportsgamblers.com, people saying gambling is corrupt and immoral - but that's just stupidity talking.

Also, don't forget that you can create up to 25 websites here at WA - without any additional fees, which means there are 24 other profitable marketing niches you can create.

Hi Davy, I think your honesty is an inspiration. I think it's always better to be up front and honest that way you don't have to look over your shoulder and worry if people will find out later. Also is it worth compromising who you are for the benefit of those who are biased, if not this they're likely to find something else to judge. Be who you are, non of us has gone through life unscathed.

It seems you are an open person by nature. There is nothing wrong with that. It's part of who you are. Yes, you can take a chance that way but do you really want people in your life who don't support you and your past. Your past has helped you get to where you are today!

First, congratulations for overcoming your addiction, I and you very well know that that kind of addiction destroys millions of people every year. You can be proud of you.

I have a question for you: What kind of people do you want to follow the link you have here to WA. Those which would react with ignorance and blame or fear towards you, or those who see and understand what you have accomplished?

To be honest and straight is for a lot of other people and for me the only way to build a sustainable business and to generate wealth on an abundant level.

Next thing is this. Be open about yourself but, and not I use the b-word because there is a hook to it. What you suffered through as sickness or addiction, is nobody else's business. At least not up front. It is very personal, private and your accomplishment to overcome it.

If you want to share it with somebody, make sure you trust them. It has nothing to do with being dishonest or insecure, and all with you protecting your most valuable asset. Yourself!

I hope that supports your way and know this, if you need anything or want to talk, I am there for you.

I'm an ex addict myself. I think it's how much you're comfortable with sharing. Personally I just tell people if they ask.

Hi David,

I think you can share as much as you feel comfortable with sharing. I doubt there are too many people in the world who do not have some kind of skeleton in their closet!

Personally, I like honesty, and am not such a person that makes judgments on others for whatever reason...People are going to be people, and as such we all make mistakes...

Depending on the situation, you can be honest about whatever level you do choose to share about your self. This makes life so easy...

You are not being deceptive, rather just choosing how much of 'you' to disclose in an honest manner ...Good discussion question!

Thanks!
Dave

Hi Davy, you can look at it from two points of view: When you tell the whole truth, you may loose some potential clients; then you may ask yourself: are those persons worth it to become your clients with their biassed opinions. On the other hand your succes story can motivate other addicts and ex-addicts to take positive actions towards their future.
You will never be able to avoid 'bad apples' on your path, it's up to you, to kick them aside or to take them in your basket.

.... one lesson i have learned from my Teacher (Yeshua/Jesus) :

Let the one whom is without sin, throw the first stone.

Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate the advice, helps me see things from another point of view

1

Hi David. Personally, I really liked what you said. We all have a story to tell, we're all real people, and the more that comes across, the more people can identify with us. Also, the people attracted to online businesses like WA are people who want to change their lives, and usually have their own stories to tell. People are more likely get drawn in when they see how someone has genuinely turned things around. A real story, not just a fabrication to trick people. It's all good, and from the heart. Nice work :0)

3

Thank you :) I appreciate your feedback, I was just worrying that people might not trust me or take my advice

1

People are more likely to trust a person who's story is real, and who's overcome a lot in life to really make things work. People aren't necessarily viewing ex-addicts as dishonest, deceptive people, more like people who've been through difficult times. I feel you'll make positive connections with people and will build more trust for being you :0)

2

It's up to you but I don't see the point in going into too much detail, perhaps some things should remain private

2

Yes ok, I have always been way too open , its just in my nature I guess. I suppose I was just trying to give inspiration and show that it doesn't matter what background you come from you can still make it work.

1

Many people struggle with direction in their life, you could say that of yourself as well.

2

I have edited it now to include less personal details. I still show that I struggled in life and showed that I started fresh. I really just don't want people not to trust me and I think most people will not trust advice from someone who made such terrible choices
