Personal Goals; The Short Term Success

Setting Short Term Goals

It seems everywhere I look, there are people who claim to have the best 'method' or 'system' to effective goal setting. Their way is the best because their followers have reinvented the wheel or quadrupled their income in 5 days, all because they wake up everyday and eat 5 eggs over easy, or wake up and stand on their head and then sprint 10 football field lengths, or stare at the rising sun for 5 minutes.

Tongue in cheek aside, and as beneficial as doing the sprints may be, many of these self improvement books that I have read, or audio programs I have listened to, have over complicated practices, that granted have worked, but only for the author and the select followers that the system was tested on.

In reality, setting personal goals is a simple, but very powerful thing to do. There's a reason why one of the first steps to getting started with WA, is setting some financial and non financial goals. This gives you a road map of where you want to get to.

Trending

One practice that I use is once per month or so I look at the trends that are in my life and ask if these trends continue, what will my life be in 6 months?

It is simple but powerful. I can see what I need to change to get where I want to be. If there are things that are not directly contributing to you reaching your goals, cut them OUT. It does you no good to keep them in your life.

Many times there are too many things we try to focus on at one time. What are the top 3 things you want to accomplish in the next six months? Focus the majority of your time, energy and resources on those things, and put the rest on the back burner.

Thank me later :)

Great post! Thanks for sharing!

I like the idea of keeping it simple, setting 3 goals, as you suggest, then working on it steadily and maintaining focus. What works for me is to keep the main goal in mind, but to focus on the daily task in front of me, one baby step at time, and not worry about all the things that need to get done. Well stated. ~ Jude

Thanks Jude. I have found that to concentrate my focus on one or just a few things short term, leads to quicker mastery.
