Mountain Rose Herbs Affiliate Program is Shutting Down
I just received an email that Mountain Rose Herbs is closing their affiliate program because of laws in some states. While I am have not actively promoting Mountain Rose Herbs on my sites (I did join their affiliate program and had planned on promoting them), this news is scary to me.
Imagine being someone who had hundreds of sales happening through Mountain Rose Herbs. This news could be devastating! It makes me wonder if all the work I am doing building an affiliate income could just be taken away in an instant.
Will Amazon ever close their affiliate program? What about the other programs I use?
I guess this shows that you can't put all of your eggs in one basket. You have to stay diverse. I also think that is is important to create your own products, because they can never be taken away.
Are any of you Mountain Rose Herb affiliates? What are you going to do now that they are closing?
And can anyone offer advice on how to stay afloat in a world where things could change very quickly?

Fortunately I'm not one of their affiliates but that's a bummer for those who are. Scary thought about Amazon but what about those banks who were too big to fail :(

WOW. I like them too and even thought about being one of their affiliates. Too late. Just like with your stock portfolio, the best thing to do is diversify. I think we're safe with WA and Amazon is so big, I think we're safe with them as well. From what I could tell, MRH was a small company (of course, small is relative).

i would imaging things like that happen with small businesses. But I like the idea of creating your own product and having another source of income.;0)
Like you, I had joined their affiliate program but didn't actively promote them. I use several different affiliate programs. If one shuts their door, I can always use another one. There's a lot of affiliate programs out there so I'm not too worried.
I think diversification is the key whenever possible. Thanks for sharing, this is a valuable reminder to not depend on any single source of income.
Good points, I can see why you're a little freaked out. I wouldn't worry about Amazon though. I'm sure we all have until the Apocalypse before they shut their affiliate program down.

I was never notified.
I was an affiliate, but never made any sales through them.
Amazon will probably keep their affiliate program for the 5-10 years minimum.
I do still like to find other companies too, so there's more of a variety on my sites.
There will always be a tiny number of people who don't like to shop through Amazon.
