Everybody wants to feel like they're somebody. As a matter of fact, people have been known to do almost anything, good and bad, in order to feel important. Since many have a poor self-image, low self-esteem, and lack of self-worth, this need is a big one.
Here is a vital thing to remember. The more valuable and special you make people feel, the more they will respond to you.
So how do you make people special? Here are some very simple and practical tips. Bear in mind that just because we almost always deal with people virally doesn't mean you cannot apply these tips in your own life.
These are acceptable offline as well as online.

1. Listen to them.
Sound simple, and it really is - if you care. If you're faking it, it's the hardest thing in the world. Put your thoughts about yourself away and tune in to what they're saying to you.

2. Use their names as often as possible. It's been said that the sweetest sound to someone's ear is the sound of their own name. I think it's true. It's the only sound that is uniquely their own. When you use it often, that means you are truly thinking about them, and that makes them feel valued.

3. Praise and acknowledge their accomplishments. It doesn't have to be something huge. Little things count too. Saying, "I drove by that garden of yours the other day - those are some great tomato plants you are growing," works fine. So does, "Good-looking tie you've got there. Looks great with that suit."
Noticing and acknowledging people for their individual uniqueness makes them feel special.

4. When they ask you a question, pause for a moment before you answer. This gives importance to their question because it means you are taking time to think about what they've said.

5. If someone is waiting to see you, be sure to acknowledge them. Don't ever ignore someone who is waiting. Even if you just make eye contact and let them know you'll be with them shortly, it makes them feel they matter to you.

6. When you are in a group, pay attention to individuals. Remember that a group is not really a group. It is individual people who need to be recognized and appreciated. When you speak to a group, look at individuals. Speak to them. Let them know you think they are important.
