Has WA been hacked? Why so many pop up ads?

Last Update: November 04, 2014

I just logged in earlier today to my WA account. Why am I getting so many pop up ads? Also whenever I click any button on the top left menu (eg Activity Dashboard, Get Started Here, Build My Website) I get a new tab but it's just random ads!?! Has my pc been hacked or is it the WA site?!?

Thanks everyone for the advise.
I will definitely look into how to best protect myself from adware.
It did put me in a brief panic as everytime i click a link or a button it took me to a new page ad!

Deleting a couple of unfamiliar items in Extensions and deleting History seem to have done d trick.

websteroids.com is adware. You might want to see if you picked it up somewhere, too. I picked it up somewhere in my on-line travels a while ago. Finally had them blocked and no more ads.

Sorry, discoden. I haven't had any of these problems. Looks like it must be on your computer, not WA network. Hope you get it fixed soon and don't run into any major problems. Good luck!

I agree, sounds like you have a virus. I am having no problems. My neighbor just had a virus. Make sure you do some scans and get rid of it. Maleware bytes works great. :))

It sounds like a virus to me. I hope it isn't. :(

There are many ad blockers you can install. If you use Google Chrome, you can find all of them inside their web store. Also, you can run an anti virus program and install an anti malware program. AngelaHall has given you the link to a good program. Good luck!

Because you are using a Mac I suggest that you go to https://discussions.apple.com/welcome and see if anyone has posted solutions there. The problem is not WA, it's your computer. ~Marion

Ok, in Chrome, I cleared the browsing data for the last 4 weeks. In extensions, I deleted anything that didn't look familiar.
That seems to do the job.
Thanks for all the prompt replies and for all the tips!

I have to post a similar question today - no ads, but I'm getting a click sound since yesterday, when I'm not clicking, like someone else is using my computer! Except I thought remote use wouldn't bring up the clicks?

You get it while browsing or while off browsing too?

it was off browsing too, apart from one strange jingle sound yesterday, it didn't happen, ran malwarebytes nothing showed up

I'm not getting them (except announcing the webinar). Do you have virus software loaded on your computer?

I'm almost sure that your computer has been infected with spyware/adware, that's the same sh*t. It happened to me once when I was surfing on Wikipedia and Wikipedia does NOT allow ads on its platform so I knew I had been infected. You should try some kind of anti adware program (https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/ ). For preventing further trouble, download AdBlock. That should be fine normally...

Looks like adwcleaner is for Windows only. Any ad cleaner for OS X?

I forgot to post the image... here it is now... the ads seems only available when I'm browsing in Chrome. It sounds like it is just my browser as I do not get these pop ups using Safari (i'm using an iMac).
How do I remove these annoying pop ups in Chrome?!?

I'd recommend a Popup Blocker.

Here's how Google shows how to manage Popups:

If that doesn't help, then use a Popup Blocker. Here's a Chrome Extension called "Adblock". Use the Adblock Plus version. That's what I use and it works perfectly fine. Make sure you're using Chrome to open the link as this is for Chrome Browser:

Hope this helps to get rid of them.

I'm the same as Nicole. Just get the pop-up for the new webinar for the week. Not sure what's going on with yours. Have you filed a support ticket yet? They may be able to help you. Good Luck!

Works fine on my end. The only popup I get is when a new Webinar is scheduled. They air every Friday and a good 2-3 days before you'll get a popup regarding the upcoming Live Training Webinar.

If that's what you mean, it's perfectly normal. I don't encounter any other popups here at WA.
