THE GIFT OF BELIEVING IN SOMEONE

Maybe you've been where I have before -- looking around and seeing others being successful but not really believing that its possible for yourself! Been there, done that for far too long. But along the way, I came across one secret that really does make a difference -- THE POWER OF BELIEVING IN SOMEONE.

I've experienced it from both directions. I remember vividly times when significant people in my life said the words, "David, I believe in you. You can do it! You're gonna make it." WOW, just hearing someone say it had a great impact on me. I think I was fortunate in that my parents consistently did that while I was growing up. In college I had a number of professors who did the same thing, whether it was in English, or Music, or perhaps just about life in general. WHEN SOMEONE BELIEVES IN YOU AND AFFIRMS THAT TRUTH TO YOU -- IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN HOW YOU SEE YOURSELF!

As time has passed I've had many opportunities to pay forward with that same truth. I have a number of friends who I was able to stop and say to them, "You're gonna make it! You have great ability in that area! Wow, you have tremendous insight." It's not so much the area that you see in them that's important. It's for them to know that you not only see something of value in them, but you believe in them as a person. What a gift it is when we can give that to someone else. What a thrill to see them respond, blossom, light up in their countenance, because of the impact of our words to them.

Here's a great little practical idea you might want to try out on someone who seems to need a lift. Find two or three things from a conversation, or from something you've observed about them and compliment them on it. Maybe you see their ability to affect others with a smile or with a kind word -- mention this to them and encourage them in how well they do it. You never really know what a difference you make in MOVING SOMEONE ELSE forward in their quest or journey. PAY FORWARD BY BELIEVING IN OTHERS! It is one of the greatest gifts you can give!
