Writing practices for positive change.
Since joining WA I have been writing a lot more, and discovering new ways of writing.
I never realized how powerful it is to write down everything you can think of, that you can be grateful for in this very moment. The more I wrote the more I smiled, lol. Odd how we can so easily take for granted the little things that make everything ok...I don't know what it is... but there is certainly something powerful about writing down those observations...
I've been learning the hard way that it's important to be kind to ourselves as well as others. The way I treat my friend's when they are having a bad day, or my sister when she is beating herself up for something that isn't her fault, or a fellow veteran when they need a sounding board. My heart goes out to them, its a natural response, kindness is the only way... But why then when I look at myself going through similar things do I say hurtful things to myself? And keep taking one step forward and two steps back?
Today I started to realize that it was my self defeating thoughts that kept pulling me down, ruining good things. So this discovery of writing down my gratitude, flooding my mind with positive thoughts, seems to be working. It's became harder and harder for the negative thoughts to find a way in. I can only imagine how consistently practicing this could reprogram long term thought processes.
Don't forget to be kind to yourself. <3
